TOPIC: Critical Hits

Critical Hits 14 years 6 months ago #1

So what exactly is doubled on a critical hit? Is all damage from all sources doubled?

Say I am using a Great Club of Bashing and get a "10" damage versus Smoak on a critical. The GCB does +3 Damage to larger than man-sized. Is that and the damage from Stength also doubled?

What about damage from other sources such as Oil of the Yeti or Oil of Holiness? If cold damage is already doubled, is it quadroupled on a critical?

if it's D&D rules, just the base damage, none of the bonuses, and I believe TD follows D&D on this one.

Depends on what Edition of DnD, it use to double everything. Now it only maxes out the random.
Sweet a combat room, we won't take damage!

The Player's Guide 3.0 states double damage plus the bonus (not doubled). (p.14)

Those are both to an older version 2.1. Anyone know the link to the version 3 mentioned above?

This is where I found my copy, it was right off of the event details page of TD site:

www.truedungeon.com/true/Players%20Guide%203.0.pdf

That is version 3 (from 2007) instead of 2.1. However, the combat examples seem to imply only the weapon damage is doubled, not other sources. However, what if you are using a magic weapon that already has it's magic included in the damage wheel? And what about the Great Club of Bashing that does an extra +3 damage? Would that also be doubled since it's on the weapon token?

The version three states: " a “critical” — as any
slide that lands in that region does the double damage pointing at the damage dot PLUS any
other damage modifiers (not doubled)."
So it would be 2 x the number on the wheel/weapon + the bonuses. So a magic damage bonus is doubled but the additions come after the fact. So I don't think the +3 would be doubled or runestone or other bonuses. Granted, that is just how I read it. Jeff or Dave would definitely be The Final Arbiter.
