Which makes all those stacking 50/50 chances even better, for those people out there that have the tokens for the mage...

I've seen you dance to that tune Henwy...and I agree for the most part...

What I don't understand in your logic is...say the first 4 rooms have monsters that are +2 and they have to roll a 20 to hit you...that's all good for AC22...but then you get to rooms 5-7 and the monsters are +4 or more...do you then don the added +'s...??? If you are saying all that is needed in the game is AC24...who clued you in that the max monster we will ever see in any given adventure is going to be +4???

I say - get to the best AC you can - and decide if slots are worth the added AC or not - i.e. shield or two handed weapon, ring of protection or ring of feather falls... No one is dictating what should be done here - it's all up to the individual and based on his/her collection/tastes.
Easy, the fact that TD is meant to be done without needing tokens other than in a random single bag means that they can never seriously increase the difficulty all that much. That means that monster strength should be comparable year to year to year. If we find out what the to hit bonus of the 6-armed whatchamacallit is, we can be pretty sure that that is the highest it ever goes. If they raise the monster difficulty to adjust for people like us, they start slaughtering newbies, which decreases the liklihood said newbies return. It's better for them to skew the threat down, rather than up. Look at the survivability percentages for last year. Highest ever.

Well they are doing just that - The red cross run was turned up a notch - I have the note someone wrote saying what EVERY monster should be turned up by.

I think Hardcore will be this same kinda thing...so again I think the real logic is what I said and not "over 24 is a waste" Get to the best AC your class and tokens can support...decide what your taste is for - more damage or more AC...and see what happens...what works one year and for one class may not work in the next.

Dave Radtke burned some midnight oil this week, and he got the Token Guide updated with all the new combo and artisan tokens. You can view the new Guide at www.truedungeon.com/true/Token_Guide.pdf

Be sure to hit SHIFT + RELOAD or you will see an old version (if you have viewed it before).

We should have a Player's Guide out in a week or so -- and it will have exact rules about how combat will be done this year -- as well as a good example fight.

Comment on the Wizard vulnerability: Given that the Mirror Image and Blink scrolls are only good for one room, you can really only use these in the final room and only then if you want to start burning tokens. If you want to be even somewhat effective in combat, Wizards are costly to play.

As for the AC discussion, two things to keep in mind, first all groups will now be getting a bag of tokens so the philosophy that you must design the dungeon for groups with no tokens, no longer holds. Hence the creatures will be harder. Second, with the new ghost rule, people (in general) will be more accepting of death and so the lethalness of the dungeon can be greater. I think the final boss will probably have more like +6 or +7 so the higher ACs will come into effect.

Question: are the recipes for this year going to be available next year? Cause otherwise I will have to mug Gary in a dark hallway somewhere to get ahold of 8 Cure Light Scrolls...

Note: in d20 rules, a periapt takes up the same slot (neck slot) as an amulet, brooch, medallion, necklace, periapt, or scarab. Is this going to be enforced? If so, you should probably add "periapt" to the excellent drawing in the token guide showing all the slot locations.

Question: I assume the spear is one-handed?

Since the definition of periapt is amulet, I figured I did not need to modify.

The spear is two handed.

Dave
