"I suggest we make haste. I think he will try to draw as much strength as he can to him. Every moment we delay may cost us."

I join Cram and Delmar at the foot of the staircase.

I look at Cram.

"Cram take the lead. I'll follow you with the casters behind us. Delmar stay with the casters a little behind us. Lexan if you will, can you shadow Cram to watch for traps. Kryndal maybe you and Barkley can bring up the rear."

"Cram. . .Lexan, let's be off."

As your group approaches the stairs you see large gray flagstone steps
spiraling up around a 20-foot-wide stone core. Cobwebs fill the staircase,
making it difficult to see even the ceiling. Heavy beams sag overhead from centuries of weight.

As you proceed up the steps eventually the stone core disappears, replaced by a dark shaft of open air
that stretches up farther than you can see. Rushing wind sways the cobwebs that fill the shaft as your
group navigates the ancient stairs.

About two stories up by your estimation the stair come to a platform that opens into an alcoves that connects
to a long forgotten chapel. Beyond the chapel the stairs continue up several more stories into unending darkness.

Do you wish to explore the chapel or continue up the tower?

I look into (but don't walk into) the chapel. "This might be worth exploring," I whisper to the group.

I study Delmar and examine his reaction to the chapel. I glance around the chapel with the lenses of clear sight.

Addressing Delmar, "Do we have time to explore the chapel? It would be his place of supplication spoken of by the gypsy. It has obviously been desecrated since its 'days of light'. Strahd's master might even be found here. The third tarot card said he might be taken by surprise here. What are your thoughts?"

"I think we should investigate it further," Breon replies quietly. "At the very least, we should make sure that no danger from the chapel would follow us as we ascend."

I place a hand on Widseth's shoulder and give him a half smile and a shrug. I walk a short way into the chapel and look around trying to figure out to what god the chapel was dedicated.
