The conversation on the thread has been about the requirement to go to multiple conventions to get max XP this next year. But that isn't really accurate.

Per this announcement, the max XP would be 6K, and you could get that by going to any of the non-GENCON conventions.

It seems wrong that GENCON is the largest and by far longest established convention for True Dungeon, and yet is the only one that you can't earn the full XP for the year. I do hope Jeff finds a way to address that today.


If he moves to a system that has new dungeons at different conventions, this comment would be inaccurate.

That is the point, True Dungeon has to untether itself from being only Gen Con. Right now, it is Gen Con and everything else is just redos. Each convention should have a unique event. There will be no convention that has max xp for the year because each has their own event. Perhaps one dungeon that is at all of them and one unique one. More True Dungeon is growth, not simply having Gen Con and then repeating Gen Con 3 times.

I don't care to much about XP otherwise I would have bugged Jeff about my XP from 2007 to 2009. I took a almost 7 year hiatus so I have less skin in this debate. What I can say is access to TD at smaller cons brought me back and I don't think those small cons should be punished because space isn't available, however I do feel like everything should be at gencon because you need to draw those smaller cons as well.

A unique Dungeon at each Convention is a lot of design and construction work for True Dungeon. Maybe it's worth it, but maybe not. If the majority of True Dungeon players at each convention are unique to that Convention, then repeating the Dungeons makes a lot of sense. Only True Dungeon management has that level of data though to make those decisions.

Regardless of XP, since the Astral Adventure Dungeon is all-new, I'd love for it to be at GENCON somehow, even it if just replaces one version of the existing Dungeons. I don't know if that makes sense from a True Dungeon management perspective, but I think it would be a great idea.

Are you dead set against going to an additional Con?
As has been mentioned here in this thread multiple times, volunteering is one way to mitigate cost and get some cool things as swag.
Or is it just that you don’t want the leader board to change?
If it’s just that you don’t want the leader board to change, then I understand what you’re feeling. I don’t agree with it because barring illness or family emergency it will remain the same.
If that’s the case, wouldn’t a permanent hall of fame page and allowing others to gain experience commensurate with their activity produce the same result?
Sure more active players would accrue more experience ( assuming unique Dungeon is at different conventions ).
That seems to be nearly equal to the argument for leaving it the same as it always has been; those that have been around longer have put in more work ( run more adventures)

So really just trying to figure out where your head is that on this.

This excerpt certainly sounds like me that you'll have three different Dungeons and 6K XP at all three of the other Conventions:

"The great news is that there will be THREE new concurrent adventures this year. Hopefully you can make it to Origins, Gamehole Con or PAX South (if we do PAX South again)."

Plus this Excerpt:

"XP is available for this adventure, so if you want to get max XP you need to play this adventure at either Origins or Gamehole Con (and other Cons we do other than Gen Con)."

I have no problem trying to draw GENCON vets to other Conventions, and I'm sure that is what this announcement is intending to do. I just wish a way was found to do it without significantly shorting GENCON attendees on XP. We'll see what Jeff says once he makes a decision. There are lots of other things that are being done to draw attendees to other conventions, like unique participation tokens, Patron events at Origins, and premiering Astral Adventure at Origins. Plus the lower ticket prices.

To me, XP is just a reward system for playing different unique adventures. Play enough unique adventures, get cool perks. Don't much care about how or where it is earned, only that it is earned for unique dungeon adventures.

If XP were extended to Grind, I'd be like, that's cool for Grind players. Won't motivate me towards playing Grinds.

I like the purple badge holder. I'm not going out of my way to make sure I get max XP all the time, though.

I will grant that there COULD be a con with 3 different XP granting adventures, but I think you are assuming it. Origins would have it, but it would be 2 different seasons XP.
GHC and Pax South or a different con mat or mat not have it.

Either way, we need to decide on the goal before we can make a rational decision. Jeff knows for sure what the goals are, the rest of us are assuning them.

I know I am guilty of ascribing motive to your suggestions Mike. I can only say it would help if you could answer some of the questions you were asked in order to help me and others actually understand your motivations or goals.

i am saying 2 things..it is unimportant to me...i would like to get away from it and just do rewards level. But since it is D&D based, it is called XP to go with the flow

as a coach i have to argue what XP means with newer players every year. I am 5th level XP so I get 5th level player card
