If you're going to buy extra packs, it might be good to order them from True Dungeon ahead of time. That would let you sort through them before GENCON and outfit yourself for one or more classes. Plus, if you spend $250 you get five free packs and an Ultra-Rare of your choice.

I think you math is off. You don't get 5 free packs though you do get to Pick and UR (PYP). Packs are only $7.99 not $10 any more.

Just tossing options out there. You'll be fine even if you don't buy any tokens. There are people with tons of tokens that still do sealed pack runs for fun.

If your just looking to buy a few things consider the player run shops in the trade section. Most of them are very welcoming to first timers.

My advice would be to pick up a
+1 saves ioun
+2 saves cloak
gaunthlet/belt of ogre powere for +2/+2 hit/dmg
a free movment item
and a +1 short sword/bastard sword

that will leave you well prepared for normal and exceptionally versatile all for about 20 bucks.
