Could you amplify that a bit? What token did you get from the factory that was later identified as a counterfeit?

As Gencon approaches and a good number of token deals will be finalized there, I wonder if its possible for True Dungeon to have some folks serving as "authenticators". I realize that the secondary market is not really their purview but as a community support gesture the service has value.

Have all the so-far-found fakes the new style?

Have there been any fake woodies? I've seen some variation in those: odd green ink for uncommons and some that have been a bit smaller.

Yeah, that seems very unusual. The only explanation I can possibly come up with is that somebody had previously turned in a set to get a RoSP and then Jeff recycled the components, and that Seg 7 was fake. But that would mean that he missed it the first time through, and didn't notice when mailing it out too. Also, seg 7 seems a strange one to counterfeit.

Shortly after Gen Con last year, there were some $1K Condensed Packs up for sale. There was a few PYPs that would be rolling off that I wanted and it was also the last chance at a Rod Segment bundled with the $1K pack (Segment 7). So I purchased one.

The Segment I received was likely part of a Rod transmute then sold to me as part of my order, directly from True Adventure.

My suggestion to Josh:

Work with the sellers and give them some time to respond. I'd expect the sellers to give you (1) a refund and (2) where they got the token from. And then contact that person, and so on. When you run into a dead end for a segment then post the whole chain (e.g. I bought it from X who bought it from Y who hasn't responded to my inquiries for 1 week). This can help us track down the source of these things. I think it is important that we put in the effort to do so.

FYI: There is LOTS of variation in woodies.

They come in all sorts of sizes (some much smaller, some much larger).

Green/Uncommon ink is sometimes hard to tell from Black. Etc.

Not much of a consolation, but I guess it is slightly better that it was a counterfeit Segment 7 than a counterfeit Segment 1 or 2... :(

I'm thinking Jeff would be willing to address your issues with the Seg 7 if it came from him...

I had some "experience" in this area where I bought a token I thought was fake and as it turned out it was just a bad printing.

But during this exercise I can tell you I now own a nice microscope with a camera attachment. If I see any token that looks suspicious I can examine and send a shot for confirmation. I also have shots of reference tokens to compare them to.

Maybe I should start an authentication service ;-)
