As I brought up in the thread about the change in difficulty, perhaps we should open it up a bit to at least allow Golden Toadstool and Mystic Mushrooms (the rare consumables) just to have a wee bit more survivability.

Any other thoughts on this?

It looks like it was changed and even consumables can't be Rares. If that is the case then let's remove the single Rare as well. Why is it there if it is the only one? Are we going to call it Green with Envy and 1 Red Spot?

I think without a rare weapon it will be hopeless for fighters, even with the 2014 stats. With an uncommon weapon and +1 ammo my ranger would have hit on monster in 2014 only on a 20 I believe, with average damage of 5-10. And there was 150+ HP.

With the increased difficulty my proposal is; as many 2015 commons and uncommons (including consumables) as you want, plus ONE other 2015 token (rare, UR, Relic). Excluding greed tokens of course. I think it will still be challenging but we at least have a chance to survive. It will exclude legendaries.

Something to consider, now or in the future, is a point system for tokens. If you assign a value of 1 point to commons and work up to 4 points for URs, you can assign a budget. Maybe 20-30 points? This would allow more than one rare, but would penalize you for doing so.

I think the only damage is going to come from the spell casters and melee are just going to be there to disperse damage.

I think this is a good idea. If the point values are right it would still be challenging.

Do it like the transmute costs - commons = 1 point, uncommons = 3 points, ultra-rares = 6 points. Say relics/legendaries/eldritch = 10 points.

Perhaps 12 for relics and 18 for eldritch/legendaries. Then set the limit at 30. It would be fun to do a run with pretty much nothing besides Io's Bow...

If we just allowed rare consumables in addition to one worn rare we would gain:
Bolt of Deephold - situational - slow
Golden Toadstool - good heal
Hand Crossbow Bolt of Idiocy - situational - casters can't cast
Moon Runestone - situational - weapon protection
Mystic Mushroom - rezzes - almost likely necessary
Potion Polymorph (Giant Spider) - situational
Scroll Acid Burst - good damage
Scroll Fire Absorption - situational - fire?
Scroll Fury's Blessing - big combat heal
Scroll Missile bane - situational - physical missile immune

That may be all we need.

I'm going to suggest again what I think is the simplest solution while giving us a chance at survival; nothing but 2015 common and uncommon tokens (equipment and consumables), any one other 2015 token, and greed tokens.

This departs only very minimally from the original intent (which always allowed one rare) and I think it will give us a fighting chance, no pun intended.

I think allowing rare consumables in general will ruin the "green" concept and unnecessarily burn a lot of expensive consumables, while allowing any one token won't. That one token could be a Mystic or Fallen Star Mushroom if one desires.

As a third-party outsider, I thought your concept was cooler as just "any number of common and uncommon tokens from 2015, plus one rare from 2015."

Once you start allowing UR's and Relics, those easily distort the environment.

Things like the 2014 +2 Viper Strike Fang, Cloak of Shadowskin, Lenses of Divine Sight, Mad Evoker's Charm, Stu-pendous Pendant, +2 Keen Slayer Bow, +3 Viper Strike Fang, Ring of Greater Focus, and Ring of Protection +4 are *significantly* stronger than anything you could get at the rare level.

Same with the 2015 +2 Deadly Drow Blood Mace, Bracers of Fast Fitness, Widseth's Mystical Lute, Icecrag Hero's Earcuff (if available in GT bags), and Ring of Heroism.

For example, what is to prevent all 10 players from choosing a Ring of Heroism as their one item? If so, then I would hardly classify a full party of 5th level players as "Green"....
