TOPIC: Green with Envy run Sunday 1PM - 3 Spots available

Re: GenCon 2015 Green with Envy run. 9 years 1 week ago #25

OK, looking at the modules for 2014 Viper's Pit, the final combat was High Priest and Sand Beast (had to defeat both).

High Priest
AC 21, HP 200, immune to poison, +10 to all saves

Doing the math for my theoretical ranged ranger, with bard song, I'll have to hit on a 13+ to hit (not bad), but I'll only deal average damage of 6.83. So a party of 10 rangers would take 3-4 rounds to kill this monster. Each round the attack was Cone of Poison against entire party requiring a Reflex save of a 22 for half damage (9) otherwise 18 damage. My Reflex saves are +7, so I'd have to roll a 15+ to save. Three rounds of half damage is 27HP... I only have 29HP. So most likely this guy would have killed many of us alone unless we had some great strategies...

Sand Beast
AC 26, HP 300, immune to missiles without True Flight, +10 to all saves

OK, this is where it really gets tricky. With Bard Song and +1 bolts I would need to hit 19s and 20s. A party of 10 doing 6.83dmg/rd would take about 5 rounds to kill this beast. Each round he does two attacks with +12 to-hit and 16 physical damage. And then there were up to 7 Constriction attacks requiring a DC-18 Reflex save to avoid.

So, basically, I think this final room would have killed all of us, or at least run us out of time even if we could have survived 8 rounds of combat.

I'm not saying I won't do it, but we may need to slightly increase our odds if we want a chance of at least somebody surviving (if this year's dungeon has monsters of similar strength).

I sent a new PM as there is still a spot open on the list. :) I could do Cleric or Druid. Cleric won't be able to hit I think, but has great utility and better AC. Druid can do ranged and has better saves but won't have quite as much support ability. I'm leaning toward cleric for the restore a special, restore a spell, and bless.

Based on my calculations posted earlier in this thread, should we consider making this just a little bit less crazy and allowing for a single token to get to Level 5, perhaps instead of the rare?

Or, perhaps sort of like we did at WYC, all 2015 commons and uncommons plus one single other token of your choice (and treasure-enhancers of course). Otherwise I think we are going to potentially have real challenges on a NM run at GenCon that actually has more than the 2 monsters that we had a WYC.

Nah. This is going to be the baseline run. Find out if it's possible to do at this level.

If it results in a TPK we modify it next year.
I think we should make it through.

May I suggest that if you open an UR in your starter pack, you can add it to your build? I am not on this run, just meddling.

Ok, because there are no FoB compatible weapons (other than my hands without a to hit bonus) I think the Monk will not be useful here.

Looking at the class roster we are melee heavy so I am going to switch to Druid (if no one minds). We could use the healing and at least the spells will land.

I don;t have them but I would like to point out the greenest tokens there are in the game are the Elemental Eldritch Set :)

Curious to see if you guys can actually pull this off. Should make for a great story.

If consumables are on the table you might want to consider
tokendb.com/token/potion-bulls-strength/

Though ranged might have an easier time hitting with
tokendb.com/token/boots-of-the-drow/
tokendb.com/token/gloves-of-archery/
tokendb.com/token/potion-cats-grace/
tokendb.com/token/1-arrow/

People keep missing that only 2015 tokens part.

Boots of the Drow yes, no on cats grace or bull strength or gloves of archery.

We do have a +1 Bolt. Basically, this is what I'm thinking for everyone but the fighters and cleric (me):
+1 Bolt
+1 Drow Lt. Crossbow
Drow Sting Armor (not casters or monk)
Boots of the Drow

I was assuming this to be allowable. If an 00 is pulled it's usable.

No potions for boosting, the boots of the Drow and Gloves of the deep gnome are valid.

Casters should remember the new scrolls this year (+3 AC is very useful)
any 2015 POTIONS, MUSHROOMS and HEALING SCROLLS are all legal
