I finally bit the bullet and decided to buy a Tool Band-It today. I went to their web site and though I searched both it and Google for a way to order by phone--I found none. Their front page says you get a "free bonus head lamp, just pay additional shipping." What they don't say is that there is no way to opt out of this offer. The on-line ordering process does not let you decline the head lamp, so you are forced to pay an extra six bucks for something you may not want.

Way lame!

Annoyed, I searched for an alternate way to buy one and lo & behold, Amazon sells them ! Granted, it's six dollars more than the list price on the Tool Band-It web site, but as an Amazon Prime member, I get 2-day shipping for no additional charge. The Tool Band-It web site said it would take three to four weeks to ship at a cost of $11. ($23 if you wanted it rushed) So for about $13 less ($25 for comparable ship-times), I'm getting the same product long before I depart for Gen Con and with plenty of time to do pre-dungeon testing. I may not get the "free" head lamp, but I can live with the loss.... ;)

My Tool Band-It arrived yesterday. My initial impressions are very positive. Here are some notes, in no particular order:
• The magnets are very strong. Tokens will definitely not fall off easily.
 •
• Very young people and/or folks with weakened digits may have trouble prying tokens off.
 •
• The magnetic area is covered with a highly textured rubber-like material. This greatly reduces the likelihood of tokens sliding around.
 •
• It's a little smaller than I anticipated. I'm writing this from work and the Tool Band-It is at home, but I'd estimate the dimensions to be around 7" × 4".
 •
• There are 15 individual magnets (arranged 5×3), each roughly ¾" in diameter.
 •
• The mag area will hold up to 12 tokens arranged edge to edge. You could stack some additional tokens over the gaps, but they tend to slide around and would very likely fall off with the slightest brush-against.
 •
• I was not able to stack two tokens on top of each other and have the top one stay put. It either slid off to the side or it didn't stick at all.
 •
• Big folks may find it challenging to get the velcro bands around their upper arm. I'm 6"5' and weigh more than I care to admit. I was able to secure it on my arm, but not quite as high up as I would have preferred.
 •
• If you're in a party where more than one person is wearing a Tool Band-It, you might want to establish a minimum "safe" distance—lest you become temporarily conjoined. ;)
 •
• It's definitely more comfortable when worn over clothing. The straps are rather scratchy.
 •
• I only wore mine around the house for about 15 minutes. I imagine it would get pretty sweaty after two hours, especially considering it does not breathe at all.

It could be adjusted by making a small section of elastic fabric with velcro at either end ( to help it stretch for bigger folsks) You can also wear it at wrist level.
It sounds nice.... not sure about the magnet strength, but making it hard to remove tokens, makes them very hard to fall off.
I strongly agree that you'd need to determine the Field Radius Both so you don't stick to other players, and so you don't get glued to a token box (fortunately the walls are aluminum piping, and thus non magnetic) or affect a PC

looking forward to seeing it

I may have overstated its magnetic strength. My comment about becoming conjoined was intended as a joke. Sure, I'm certain if two Tool Band-Its connected they would stick together, but not with enough force where it would be even remotely difficult to separate. I think the real issue in that situation would be token migration.

As far as removing tokens, any average adult would have no problem whatsoever taking a token off of a Tool Band-It. Yes, it's a good, solid connection, but it's not it's not that solid.

If one is handy with a needle & thread, altering the velcro straps would be a piece of cake.

Wearing it at wrist level is certainly an option, but I don't think I'd opt for it. Having it affixed to my shoulder means it should be far enough out of the way to not attract any of the ferrous metal hanging around my neck. I don't have a hit point counter at home to test, but it seems like I'd be constantly sticking to the steel "button" if I had a strong magnet on my wrist.
I can see I need to develop a shirt or hat with embedded magnets. A hat might be spiffy.

Heh. Makes me think of the Chapeau of Magnetic Inversion from the game "Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura"
