TOPIC: Character board for in game

Character board for in game 6 years 3 months ago #1

Here is a board I am making for carrying my characters tokens. I have a hard time remembering all of my characters bonuses and whatnot during game. This keeps all my tokens easily accessible as well as some consumables such as spells and scrolls, etc.

Still waiting on my delivery of magnets to glue in and am planning on putting some nice little wooden handle trim on the sides.

Very nice. You could probably sell a few here on the forum

I've considered doing that. I think it is sort of a made to order item. If anyone has any requests we can hash it out somehow.

This past Gen Con I saw a player with a similar board that was cut into the shape of a shield. Nice touch for fighter classes.

I really dig this! Here are my concerns...

1) Hands free. Do you store it in a bag and pull it out to reference it?

2) I don't trust magnets. Maybe in addition to magnets, you have a clear overlay that is pinned to one corner of the board?

This was my solution to the problem of never remembering my equipped token abilities...

I was curious about that as well. It seems like carrying that around by hand could quickly become a nuisance--especially during combat.

BTW, setting stuff on the combat board is not okay.
Have you looked it up in the TDb ?

I always have my messenger bag with me at conventions so I will be carrying it in there to free up my hands. In true dungeon I have my token binder but I find the pages cumbersome and if the binder gets tipped the tokens like to slide out. Last year I had issues with tokens sliding out of sleeves and finding them. This way they are secure, the magnets I have on order are 3/8 diameter neodymium magnets, pretty strong stuff for what it's doing.

Buddies have recommended a strap built onto for carrying, and even a leather or some kind of flip cover for it. We shall see. Still a work in progress.

The board in the shape of a shield is a nice touch!

SnakeEyes - Did you make those bracers yourself?

I designed the channel system for holding the tokens and then added it to a store-bought bracer. It works great and the tokens are completely secure when worn.

I've seen too many "unbelievable circumstances" with tokens in the dungeon over the years to trust magnets...even though I know they're extremely strong and reliable.

I trust the magnets enough. One of em has a pull force of 8 lbs. That and being recessed in a hole so the tokens can't even slip side is more than enough to keep me confident. That and I don't have any super high end tokens I'd lose sleep over anyways ;)
