TOPIC: Best Ways to Hold Tokens

Re: Best Ways to Hold Tokens 9 years 9 months ago #61

Another good idea is to use some of the Dansco vinyl pages at the front of the binder to hold printed out character sheets. I use the 1 1/4" binder to hold about 7 pages for tokens, and then in the front I have some of the 4 pocket vinyl pages www.wizardcoinsupply.com/products/dansco-vinyl-pages/ which I put small printed cards from the character builder to show both the final stats and the list of tokens for the build. The rest of my tokens are ordered by the same order on those printed sheets so I can quickly pull out the card and then show the coach all of the tokens needed are there. This works well for pick-up groups and any team that doesn't have an already printed party card as I can quickly account for my tokens and allow the coach to move on. It doesn't do a full honest to god "math check" for how the stats add up, but it would take a lot more space to show all of that detail and I'd have to fold the card in half probably. The other nice thing is that I can put in order all of the possible tokens I'd use, so in the section for lenses I have both my Lenses of Divine Sight and Sniper goggles side by side, so if I'm accounting for my rogue the sniper goggles are there, and if accounting for my cleric, the other lenses are there, and both are in order for flipping.

I have the one pocket vinyl sheet in the back of each of ours. It holds the entire print off of the character with the stats (from the spreadsheet). I am think adding the 3 or 4 page in front would be a great idea, had never thought about it, just to give the person holding the book an idea of all the options they have, i.e. the 5th level Barbarian book would have a sheet stating they are -1 hp from melee, and that they have a potion leaping attack.

For those of you who bring the binders for your tokens: what do you with the binder after you have shown the tokens to the coach? I guess put it in your backpack?

For people who can check bags at the Adventurer's Guild doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose?

i recommend Taping the top of the slots that the tokens slide in. At first the book and pages will most likely hold the token..over time they will slide out...I wouldnt take any chances anyway. I would insert token then tape it in

...and use a binder that zips around all three open sides. Just in case.

I did some searching for leather tubes to see if I could find something that could work.

I found these awesome leather golf ball tubes, I just wish they were more affordable.. :(

(I believe a golf ball is just wider than a token)

Carry around a token everywhere you go.

Shelly found an old pill case today. Her grandparents had a lot of prescriptions, I guess... It's a septagon with one large compartment for each day of the week, and it's large enough for a stack of 6 or 7 tokens per compartment. (Of course I checked; I carry around a Duck for luck, and to see what random things it might fit into.) So it will get filled with scrolls and potions, nicely sorted, with a cord to wear around my neck. We'll see how that works.

Kind of like this, but without the ugly letters:

according to LeaderBoard.com:
The United States Golf Association specifies that a golf ball must be no less than 1.68-inches (42.7mm) in diameter. This is called "The American Ball".

The "British Ball" is a teensy bit smaller, at 1.62-inches (41.1mm)

According to Jeff, tokens are 39mm in diameter and 3.5mm thick.

So yes, they are. :)
Have you looked it up in the TDb ?

This will be the first year using my dansco binder in the dungeon, as I used molda's wallets in th epast and had a snap loop to hold it on my belt. I just ordered a leather messenger bag/pouch on etsy that should hold the binder well and also match the style of my outfit. I have a small leather pouch just big enough for 4 tokens that hangs from my belt and holds my weapon tokens so I don't misplace them.

The bag should be arriving in the next few days, so I'll know then if it is actually a good fit or not. I think there would be a decent market in making a book cover style leather item that would slide over the dansco binder, latch closed with a few hardware pieces, and then add d-rings or clips near the top so that you could add a shoulder strap or directly clip it to a bag/belt. Something that looks a bit like THIS

We carry the books with us in our hands currently. If we need to switch weapons, show that I have a torch, or pull a potion, scroll, or sleep arrow, it is readily available without fear of losing them. I am looking for a good carrier for them that would gain quick access if a token is needed.

GenCon is selling a messenger bag that is half the price of the one in the link. I wonder if it would do.

One token "holder" that I can't do without is the magnetic arm band. I place my weapon tokens and anything I need readily available. For me, in costume or not, this works well. The magnets are extremely strong and even if someone bumped me it wouldn't drop a token - you literally need to "rip" the token off the arm band.

They are very inexpensive ($11 at Amazon)
