Ladies and Gents -
Forgive the off-topicness of this post, but I'm just all kinds of proud of myself and wanted to share...
I got the chance to qualify with the 9mm pistol this morning. I haven’t fired a handgun since I was 12… They called me at 1400 (that is 2pm for those who lead normal lives) yesterday and told me to be there at 0430 this morning. This is a rare opportunity for Corpsmen here on this base, we don’t normally get the chance to shoot.
Well, I got there a little early and was told that they couldn’t give me any last minute training. They told me how to stand, gave everybody the safety briefing, and we went to the range. Over the course of the next 4 hours, I fired 198 rounds under various conditions (kneeling, lying down, going through an “obstacle course, firing under “no light conditions, firing with a flashlight, etc).
My final score, of a possible 240 points, was 231. That qualifies me as an Expert with the pistol. I’ll be awarded a medal and a new ribbon to wear on my uniform, as a result.
Thanks for letting me stroke my own ego. Back to our regularly scheduled program...
