TOPIC: Call for Gen Con SPA events

<br /><br />Greetings all!<br /><br />This year, again, I'm the Volunteer SPA coordinator for Gen Con. The SPA program stands for SPousal Activities, and is a track of nongaming programming, aimed at the nongamer spouse attendee, or a gamer looking for a break from gaming in their weekend.  These events are more heavily skewed to women's interests, since we have more gamer widows than gamer widowers at Gen Con, but we do have men participate in these events as well, and I'd definitely welcome submissions geared towards men, or everyone, as well as women. <br /><br />Past activities have included yoga, jewelry making, scrapbooking, and a variety of dance classes. This year we have even more events submitted than last year, but I'm always looking for more! Particularly, I would love to see more crafting workshops; we have NO knitting classes submitted for instance.<br /><br />We're also having an open crafting room at Gen Con this year. If you're crafty generally, but not really into running events; this would be a great place to volunteer and earn some points towards your free badge.<br /><br />If you're interested in more information about the program and/or running a SPA event, please feel free to email me at marimacc (at) gmail.com. Maybe this is completely out of the reach of things you want to do...<br />But I know of several women (and men) who have always wanted to understand sports rules.<br />Would it be possible to do a couple seminars explaining things like that?<br />If I wasn't already working full-time for TD, I'd even volunteer to help.<br /><br /><br />For instance... what is the whole downs thing in football?<br />                    what do they mean by icing in hockey?<br />                    can anyone explain the infield fly rule in baseball?<br /><br />

<br /><br />Welp, to be honest, that's definitely not something I could explain AT ALL, but if someone else is capable of running it, I'd be more than happy to help them with submitting it.

I can just see the title now...<br /><br />The "RELATE TO YOUR MATE" Series...<br /><br />First comes "Sports 101"<br />Second comes "BEERS of the World"<br />Third "What never to ask a man"<br />Fourth "Beer is a food group"<br />Fifth "What I do when out with the guys is none of your business"

Actually, since many geeks are not very sports-oriented, I thought this would be something that could give the women an edge in social settings.<br />Imagine being at a restaurant where they have 'the big game' playing on a TV.  The wife yells out, "Aw, come on!  That was a lousy call!" and the husband sits there shrugging, not understanding a thing.<br /><br />I'm calling for a gender revolution here!        =D

Pffft. I don't see why gamer spouses should be entertained or learn anything. They're there just to look pretty and occassionally blow on our dice for luck, right?

I thought these events were for when you get sick of them standing next to you asking "Why are you moving that piece?  I'd move that one."    :angel4:
