TOPIC: Adobe Help!

Adobe Help! 16 years 6 months ago #1

I know some of you forumites are tech-handy so here's my question. I have some Cub Scout forms that I have in PDF format. I'd really like to type the information DIRECTLY into the form, but that's not possible in this format. Can I save it or export it or SOMETHING so that I can have the form and enter my data directly in there? Or, am I stuck printing all of these out and hand writing it in there?

Thanks for any help!

Lori

i have seen pdf's where they are setup so you can enter data into the fields on the computer. I am pretty sure the pdf has to be set up for that though.

i am not sure how to make the document do it. you would need the ability to modify pdf documents to make it capable. You could just put text input fields where the blank lines are.

There is a free software program called Foxit Reader that will let you type on any PDF and print it out. It doesn't type in boxes, just anywhere (so you might have to be careful to keep it neat). And if you save the changes, it will put some mark on the page (encouraging you to buy the professional version).

So if you just need to type in the blanks and print it out, it will work. If you want to type in the forms and save them for later, you will have to deal with the watermark.

If you want to edit the original PDF, you will have to purchase the professional version of either Adobe or Foxit reader.

Sorry, I started this reply and had to run off to a meeting before finishing it. Hope this helps.

EDIT:

One more thing. If you ever need to make PDF's, there is another great piece of software call PDFCreator that will install something that looks like a printer on your computer. Just print from any program to it and voila! you have a PDF. Download link .

There's something called acrobat writer. At least, there used to be. The only problem (as I recall) is that you needed to have the whole acrobat suite and not just the reader in order to use it properly. The only reason I had access to it at the time is because I was at a university that paid for it. It made frakking grant proposals and things less irritating.

Depending on the formatting of the document, it might be possible to convert it to a .txt or .rtf document, and type wherever necessary. Unfortunately, if there's any fancy fonts, or columns, or whatnot, then it won't transfer well.

My husband says if you has an OCR feature on your scanner that you can scan through into Word and it should allow you to type directly on the form.

Kim

Lori,
Send them to me. The forms have to be published with a settings tag that essentially elevates your copy of reader to a editor of sorts. I should be able to convert them if they have not been password protected.

If you have a full version of Acrobat, I can walk you thorough how to edit. This all depends on whether or not the document was PW protected.

Dave
