Didn't go for me either. Astigmatism. I probably have eyes shaped like footballs.

So, overall are you happy with the surgery?

It is on my list of things to do in the future, and I am still on the fence.
Try plushies. It's never going to be easy to explain to strangers how you like to @#^& stuffed animals.

Plushies are wonderful.

If you are 10 years old like my daughter.

Well, I used to not be able to see who was standing 3 feet in front of me without my glasses before the surgery. Now I can. I still have a problem with making out who someone is from more than... 20-25 yards? I also have a problem with reading road signs and anything on an overhead (or stupid PowerPoint meeting).
With glasses on, my corrected vision is worse than it was before surgery - but they are working on that.

My friend and my cousin both went to 20/20. And are very happy.

So, as long as you don't have football eyes like Henwy and I, you should be OK.

So, overall are you happy with the surgery?

I had it done 8 or 9 years ago. I was 20/250 and 20/275. I had astigmatism, but they corrected me down to 20/15. After a couple of months it settled back to 20/30, but they recorrected with a second go round. Now I am at 20/20 or 20/25 depending on how dry my eyes get. I have to keep them hydrated. I love it. Some people have haloing at night with lights, but I have never had that problem.

IMO--things to watch for. Don't chase the deals. Look for surgeons who know what they are doing. Also research the type of lazer they are using. Some are better than others. Believe it or not some will leave microscopic pock marks, like craters on the moon, on the cornea which can cause a little blurring. Overall it may give you ok vision, but you want to get the best you can.

To me it was literally a miracle. I have to wear glasses for reading because of age. Don't know that they can correct that yet--one or the other--near sighted or far sighted. Maybe they are able to do both now because there have been so many advances.

This is where I had mine done and it is a good website to answer questions and get you started on your research.

willvision.com/

Widseth

Yes, I agree with Widseth. It's worth the money to find a reputable office instead of one of those places that offers Lasik for $200. $200?! What the!? $200 for any kind of surgery would scare me.
Even though my sight isn't what I was hoping for, the doctors are very good about follow-up and such where I went.

I payed 2k I think. It was something like $999 an eye and that was back 7-8 years ago. The cheap version at the time was $500 an eye but a new laser whozit had just come out when I decided to get it done.

Thanks guys, I am very sensitive about my eyes and really do not care to strike a deal for the lowest bid.

You are correct in that I have a lot of research to do, when I first started thinking about it the cost was closer to 4-5K, while I know it has come down quite a bit, I am not expecting to get in and out for a few hundred dollars.

Dave
Mine cost about $2400 a year ago or so. I thought it was a very worthwhile investment.

Dave, I had my eyes done at TLC ( http://www.tlcvision.com/centers/indiana/ ) located north of Castleton Mall about 5 years ago. I still have slightly better than 20/20 vision. I wish I had done it sooner. The doctor (Dr Orr) was the chief eye surgeon at St. Vincent's so I was pretty confident he knew his stuff. Of course, a computer does most of the work. About thirty seconds of lasers crackling per eye and then time for a looooong nap and lots of eye drops.

I agree completely with Jammies, don't go to any discount, weekend eye special. Not that you would be so foolish. I mean we only have one set of eyes! I also agree that having your cornea cut and flapped open was... slightly uncomfortable and down right strange. They numb you up pretty darn well though. Also a good chance that they'd use a laser today instead of a micro scalpel.

Do it. You'll be glad you did.
