SMC offers it for $50 to faculty as party of a group purchase program. You should check with your school. They might have something similar?

And for $10 more you can upgrade to Ultimate 64-bit.

How can I tell if my machine is 32 or 64?

It is running 32 now, I can almost guarantee it. However it might be able to run 64-bit (much better security). What is your processor?

the short answer.

Likely you have a 32 bit version of the Windows Operating System, unless you have specifically purchased a 64 bit version. If you are using XP then it will state at hte startup if it is the 64 bit edition. For vista, it would probably say somewhere inside.

Whether you have a 64-bit windows operating system or not, should not effect your ability to use Microsoft Office 2007. Windows will emulate the 32 bit environment if you have the 64 bit version. Most applications are actually still 32 bit.

If you want to go 64 bit you will probably have to purchase it. Most computers still have 32 bit operating system versions even though the processor is 64 bit because 32 bit software and drivers are more common for most hardware. So 64 bit is probably for intermediate to advanced computer users. Changing could make your printer and other hardware/peripherals give you a head ache.

Possible easy way to check for 64 bit operating system on vista: click on the start menu, and goto the all programs listing. If you have a Internet explorer entry that says 64 bit version (or something to that effect) you have a 64 bit operating system.
