TOPIC: Disney in talks to buy 21st Century Fox

Disney in talks to buy 21st Century Fox 6 years 5 months ago #1

Disney has been talking to Fox about possibly buying all non-News & Sports assets. It would be great for X-Men, Daredevil, and especially Fantastic Four to be back with all the rest of the Marvel Properties (although Spider-man is just shared right now). And it would be great for all the Star Wars rights to be at one company. :)

I believe this is what's holding back a Blu-ray non-old-man-Lucasafied version of the original trilogy. If so, I'm all for this!

Just having X-Men back into the MCU would be enough for me. The FF have been killed and buried so deep I think only a change of this magnitude would make me want to try watching them again.

While some of the perks mentioned would be nice there is one word for this:

Monopoly

Having the Fantastic Four and all of the related characters in the MCU is the biggest draw for me. I'm OK with the X-Men being mostly in their own universe, as I think they work best there (although I'm sure Marvel could find a way to incorporate them).

It does sound like the deal might be dead though. I hope they revive it.

As big as they are I hardly think disney is anywhere close to a monopoly yet.

I would love to see droids and x-men back under their parent umbrellas.

My mind just jumped Monopoly -> Hasbro -> "Disney should buy Hasbro. They've shown recently that they can take good care of geek IP, so give them a shot with running D&D for a while."

Hm... if this goes through maybe Fox Network will stop killing scifi shows.

If you're looking for the non-edited, original films you might try to find a copy of the widescreen limited edition dvds. They came with a copy of the theatrical version.

The analysis I was reading said that Disney needed to do something like this in order to be competitive with Netflix and Amazon in the streaming service arena. So it might make that area more competitive and not less. Although it is true that it would reduce the number of major film studios from six to five.

I'd love for Disney to buy Hasbro, so Marvel could finally do a Micronauts comic again with all the characters, and the name, again. They would also be able to do Rom comics again. And they could reprint the classic runs.
