Texas! Now an open carry state for swords.

www.cnn.com/2017/07/13/us/texas-sword-knives-law-trnd/index.html

(CNN)Starting this fall, adults in Texas can openly carry knives with blades longer than 5.5 inches.

In fact, swords, spears, daggers, sabers, bowie knives and machetes are all perfectly fine to tote around. Pretty much anything you can whip out in a Dungeons and Dragons battle is fair game

D&D teaches all the important lessons in life - the low blow, the cheap shot, the back stab, the double cross. - Jerry Marsischky

Let them trap us. We have our swords. - Elric of Melnibone.

You try to get them to play the game, but all they want to do is play the rules. - Ardak Kumerian

I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend - Faramir

That kind of simultaneously wants me to move to Texas because that's so cool and at the same time to never want to set foot in Texas because that's so dangerous. :)

You might want to go with option 2 there.

The legislation stalled in May after a man was accused of using a hunting knife to kill one student and wound three others at the University of Texas at Austin. Frullo postponed debate on the legislation until a week later -- but stood by his bill.

Or maybe only a good guy with a sword can stop a bad guy with a sword.

But seriously it's sad to hear stuff like that. I hope the other three were ok.

What I don't get is people can open carry a rifle here but I can't have a strung bow in open carry.

My wife and I avoid restaurants with a posted "no weapons" policy. Since the 50s, about 98% of mass shootings have occurred in gun-free zones.

I don't think the Texas law sounds the least bit scary.

Do you also not go in home that have guns, because the risk of dying from an unintentional gunshot injury is 3.7 times higher for adults living in homes with guns? Not looking to get into a pro-gun/anti-gun fight. Just that it was if you were avoiding certain restaurants you might want to avoid certain homes.

A very debatable assertion. Politifact rates it as half true. At the very least what is counted as a gun free zone is questionable. Fort Hood was included in the count.

(And for the record, there is a gun in my house. And a United Cultlery replica of Fili's sword - not very sharp, but hefty enough to ruin your day if it hits you.)
