TOPIC: GHC Moongate Maze Saturday 12:24pm

GHC Moongate Maze Saturday 12:24pm 6 years 8 months ago #1

We have 8 of the 10 tickets for this slot and would love to find the other 2. Our class preferences are below (although we may have some flexibility):

1. Dwarf Fighter
2. Cleric
3. Ranger
4. Wizard
5. Rogue
6. Bard
7. Druid
8. Barbarian

Looking forward to it!

We have the other two. As GHC seems like a good opportunity for our group to try out other classes, I don't think we feel strongly about choices. Though, what difficulty level? I have an amusing monk build, but I wouldn't play it at anything above normal.

Tentatively plan on Elf Wizard and Paladin at this point, perhaps.

Excellent! Excited to run with you, Ian!

Our group includes 5 who will be on their first ever runs (including my 12 yo son), so our top priority is making sure everyone has a great time (so that they will play with us again!). Which means that wacky monk build might be super fun!

As for difficulty, we can be flexible. I'm leaning toward normal or hardcore for this group. Our Dwarf Fighter, Cleric, and Wizard (the experienced players) are pretty well equipped and could probably handle nightmare in the right group - especially the DF. The others are mostly red with a smattering of purple here and there. We will be trying out all 8 builds together at GenCon on hardcore. I'll let you know how it goes and perhaps we can make the difficulty call then?

And if you have a preference for another class, let us know. This is a pretty easy-going group and I bet we can work things out.

Looking forward to this!

This is going to be great! If need be I can switch to a different class to give someone else the class they want to play. I have no problem being flexible especially if the first time players are passionate about a character class.

How did things go playing hardcore?

Andrew and I could really use hardcore or nightmare runs for the XP (and because our builds are way OP for normal). It's so hard to say without knowing the strengths of the *players*, but I think more and more about (5th level) paladin as a way to keep more fragile characters around until at least the final room, I'm more concerned about puzzle damage than combat damage as a cause of premature demise, and that's harder to "token for".

Besides, I should actually be forced to slide on occasion. And, Sacrifice gives me an interesting hypothesis to test.

If it's just a matter of tokens and there's an interest in borrowing (I can totally understand wanting to play with one's own collection), I'm sure we can lend some stuff that would have impact. I have a couple of rezzes I know about, too, if things get unusually ugly.

On the other hand, we have other opportunities to play hardcore/NM Moongate, in theory, so it's hard-ly essential to play hardcore.

It went great, thanks for asking! Our group of 10 did great on HC in Dancing Combat and our group of 5 did great on HC Moongate Puzzle. No deaths. (And not even really close.) Our Dwarf Fighter and a few others did plenty of damage, and we got plenty of healing from our cleric.

Which is to say that HC would be great for GHC. (Now of course watch the TD Gods strike us down for our hubris.) As the wizard, though, I will never, ever object to an OP Paladin, so probabaly best to stick to HC and not Nightmare.

Five of our group will be level five (DF, cleric, wizard, ranger, and Bard). We had our paladin guard the Druid and Bard (even though the wizard only has 12 AC, he has 74 HP). Since the wizard also likes to use the MEC, the plan was to switch over to protect the wizard in late game if necessary. It never became necessary.

And our DF loves to taunt monsters... Sort of like having another paladin around.

So HC sound good to you?

Hope you guys had a great time at GenCon!

I think that we will be plenty fine on hardcore.

The cleric, dwarf fighter, and wizard have plenty of experience and understand the in's and out's of their respective classes (and may all be a little token crazy.) The ranger, rogue, bard, druid, and barbarian on the other hand will be brand new so I think hardcore will be pushing the limits for them. They will also be borrowing the builds we provide so they will be even more overwhelmed in the dungeon.

I think hardcore will give plenty of tension to the new players and allow the experienced players to play their full build.

If you feel otherwise no worries we can do something else.
