TOPIC: Lucked into a Golden Ticket - what to expect?

Lucked into a Golden Ticket - what to expect? 6 years 10 months ago #1

Hola all

I lucked into a golden ticket this year and never knew anything about it. What is common to expect in the event?

Fred

It's a terrible experience. If you like, I'll take it off your hands for you.

But seriously, the GT runs are highlights for people lucky enough to get them. They do the first runs in each dungeon after training Weds night. They sort of serve as test subjects for us to observe to see how the dungeon will work, so sometimes the "rough edges" haven't been smoothed out yet.

The runs are usually done at nightmare level of difficulty b/c most GT holders are big token buyers. Don't forget, though, one player can dictate that a run not be nightmare if s/he wants.

The biggest draw for the GT runs is that there is some kind of bonus room or experience. These range from permanent player effects (cog medallions, Deck of Many Things), effects that last for the rest of the con (getting a specific bonus for TD runs), one year there was a pizza party and a player versus player combat, to the chance to get extra tokens (archery contest to hit targets that would give you purps, relics, or even legendaries).

If you feel under equipped for Nightmare, your group can most likely enhance your build. Just post your need on the planning thread.
D&D teaches all the important lessons in life - the low blow, the cheap shot, the back stab, the double cross. - Jerry Marsischky

Let them trap us. We have our swords. - Elric of Melnibone.

You try to get them to play the game, but all they want to do is play the rules. - Ardak Kumerian

I do not love the bright sword for its sharpness, nor the arrow for its swiftness, nor the warrior for his glory. I love only that which they defend - Faramir

Gratz!

Another tradition is that Jeff hands out a small "swag bag" of tokens. It varies a little from year to year, but usually mostly consists of tokens from the current year: a set of trophies, a set of completion tokens, sometimes a set of volunteer tokens, maybe a Tooth, one of each three- and four-point transmute, a random relic, a UR or two, maybe a 5k or 10kgp bar. I think someone got a 25k last year.

That's part of why GTs trade for so much, but only part.

You'll make everyone else in the party very sad if you veto Nightmare, but as Bryan says it is your right. If you don't think your build is up to it, the others are 99.9% going to offer to lend you all manner of tokens to beef you up, including a CoA and Nugget.

You'll probably need to use your own weapons though, unless they already know you. Many of us have learned the hard way that, whether through malice or excitement, loaned weapons don't always find their way back home.

Very polite of you to link 2 other offers and not your own, Ed.

Well, honestly they are offering more than I probably want to part with so I would expect he would go with their offer not mine. Now if I have something he is looking for I am happy to try to make a trade.

It's one of the best times you will have playing true dungeon.....I happened to go once after a very great deal on eBay when everyone else forgot about it. It was the year of the archery range and u managed to hit two legendary token targets. Your experience may vary but It is always going to be a great exoerience.

I have bought LOTS more tokens this year than my usual, hoping to get lucky and hit a GT! Congrats, and forgive my angry, jealous vibes coming at you...
