TOPIC: Is There a Trick to Getting Tickets?

Is There a Trick to Getting Tickets? 6 years 11 months ago #1

Hello All,

This is my 2nd Year attending Gencon. It was the first time I created a Wish List. I sadly assumed I would possibly get my 1st pick if not 2nd. I got neither. :(

Couple of questions:

1) Do you have to book every time slot and every available ticket in hopes of getting the tickets you need?

2) Also, is there any rime or reason to where you get placed in lined? I was 6,453 right when I hit submit on my wishlist.

3) Is there any hope to getting tickets for myself and my friends still? Any advice at all is welcomed! :)

If you know there are times you want, it is best to have several people add those to their wish list and hope someone gets a low number in line. It is just random placement to the best of my knowledge.

As far as getting into a run or two, you can keep checking for returned tickets, check the forums for people with empty spots, or throw your name on the wait list at Gen Con if you have an open block of time.

Lots of us did not get events off our wishlist either. But it does increase your chance to load/overload your list with TD runs. I had 48 preliaded. Gotten zero. My friends got 2 runs. After my wishlist for zero. I have able to get 4 runs and my friends 2 more.
We chose the 4 we wanted and set the other 4 free. I was even able to get an additional run after that which had a better time so returned a different run.

So it was possible to get tickets without wishlist. Key was being flexible and woeking at it.

All that said there are folks with extra tickets here on the forum.

How many people are you looking to get tickets for?

If you are <4, are flexible, and check back here on the forum, then you have good chances, especially close to GenCon when people that can't go anymore give up their spots.

Most years I don't know that I can go until just before the con, and I've always gotten into runs. But it's much more easy to get a ticket for 1 person.

I got NOTHING on my first wish list. (Luckily one of the other 4 in my group got all of the runs.) But after my last event disappeared, I immediately went back and looked for other slots someone gave back and I got what I wanted.

I suppose you could start out wishing for 50 runs...

Persistence is key. Don't give up after your wishlist was unsuccessfully...

Check the index thread about the runs at GC, and focus on those looking for more.

Those are players who have extra tickets to a run, and are trying to fill them from the forums.

I would also recommend continuing the check the forums for awhile. I have given my group to the end of June to fill my spots. Currently I have over 20 unclaimed tickets. At the end of June I may have some left at which point I will start looking for people to fill them. I usually start with people that have never played before.

Yup! Kakitahan and I spent 3+ hours after our wish lists failed grabbing what we could. We did it, but it was work. Never give up, never surrender!!

I got none of my wish list slots. But thanks to the forums, I found everything I need except Moongate Maze Puzzle which I'm still looking for.

The search tool here on the forums is key. Search the "2017 Gen Con" thread for words like "open."

More specifically, search in the General > 2017 Gen Con > Gen Con Adventuring Groups Form Here 2017 sub-thread
Have you looked it up in the TDb ?
Please post TDb corrections in this thread .

Shameless plug for the group index thread .

There are a few threads outside the Adventuring Groups subforum, but I indexed them anyway.
