TOPIC: Can my group of 10 book a slot to play together?

Can my group of 10 book a slot to play together? 7 years 4 days ago #1

What the title says. Is there any way (outside of the unlikely mercy of the Gen Con system) to book an entire slot for our group?

One of the 10 of you can buy all ten tickets. I do it every year.

Right, but that doesn't work if even one ticket has been purchased from that slot already. Have you had an easy time getting a full session in the past?

It can be very challenging, as the tickets seem to sellout faster and faster each year. I'd recommend having your wish list pre-loaded with the runs you're interested in, and alternates, and alternates for the alternates, and be sure to hit your button as close to the start time as you're able to. And if your friends can do the same that would be great. I'll have two friends helping me this year. Then, just keep your fingers crossed that you'll get a full run in your cart when your wish list processes.

If you're not able to, check the events frequently to see if any were turned back in. I've had to do that on occasion when I wasn't able to get full runs up-front. There were one or two times that I wasn't ever able to get full runs, and had to settle for what I got.

At this point you are at the mercy of the GenCon system to get a full slot booked.

Good luck!

There is a checkbox in the system to only get the tickets if you can get all 10.

I have been able to get at least 3 full runs for the past 4 years. Last year is the first year I was not able to get 4 and only managed 3. Some years I have gotten as many as 7 in my cart before I released them back into the wild.

If you are flexible on the times and dungeon you will run, getting 1 full run shouldn't be an issue. However if you want to play a particular dungeon around a particular time/day then it does get to be more difficult.

I don't think it's too hard to book an entire slot of 10 through the GenCon Event Registration system.

Every year, lots of forumites (including me) are able to do it with minimal problems.

The main constraint is how flexible you are. If you are totally flexible, then it is extremely easy.

If the only time all 10 of you can do it is Thursday at 5:36 PM, then it will be hard getting that specific slot.

That is a great point. If you don't check that box, you might get a run with less than 10 tickets in it in your cart, and then that will prevent you from getting any other runs in your cart that overlap those times.

As others have said, build a wishlist with say 10 or 20 overlapping runs, with the checkbox to get all 10 tickets or nothing, ordered by your preference. I suggest NOT using your friends names but instead get yours and 9 "additional tickets for me". You'll get the first one that has 10 slots open once you submit your wish list. You won't get any overlapping ones, but if you have non-overlapping options you could get more than one run in your cart. Worst case you just remove the run(s) you don't want before checking out.

(if you mark your actual friends for the extra tickets, then their own registration wishlists might have events that conflict with yours, or your tickets in your cart might conflict with events they are trying to book. So keep it generic and then work it out before they check out)

Also, keep in mind that the runs don't really need to be done in a certain order. Often, the "second run" is easier to get the morning of Thursday, and the "first run" is easier to get later on the last day, because many people purposely or out of habit tend to do the runs in order.
