TOPIC: Thoughts and experiences from a 1st-time volunteer

I'd love to separate New DM's from experienced ones, so more in depth training can be delivered to the folks who need/ want it most.

That was probably my biggest challenge. Nobody told me what a bubble was, or how to handle shift changes (or that shift changes were during a bubble), etc. If I was a new volunteer and didn't have a lot of playing experience I would have been in trouble.

I second the protein, but then again I'm a firm proponent of extremely limiting carb intake, so that's a different discussion :)

Saw this and had to correct as both a player and as a training room coach (my job this year) regarding how the monk handles 2 handed slides. Had to correct both 'veteran' players and coaches who said to use two hands.

This was my biggest annoyance. In the training room I had about 5 monks tell me that they were told to use two hands last year, or even this year. The player card clearly states one hand.

Even worse, I ran into one of the Monks in the vendor hall later, and he told me that a DM on the same run as I was the player coach told him to use two hands.

On a obliquely related note Kirk, did you run into any issues with new players attempting ranger with the wrong weapons? Something i saw more than a few times in the training room as players thought you can use any 'ranger' weapon for the 2nd puck. In the training room with the first hour i got into the habit of checking the ranger if he/she was a new player to see if they needed/able to slide 1 puck or 2. Ultimately a few times i had an assistant coach go get an offhand compatible weapon from the bucket while in training.
We're all the kind of people who enjoy the game on a "meta" level. We like talking about the game year-round. We buy tokens. We enjoy crafting. We get together during the off-season if we can. We are a very skewed demographic that way. -Raven

Oh yeah, I had newbie Rangers who didn't have two weapons or were trying to use weapons ineligible for the offhand. Or trying to slide two ranged weapons.

I also had Monks using the common Cestus which has a worse damage dial than the empty puck does.

What is the Monk's empty dial damage anyway? I want to use that for some comparisons on cantrips

Ok so a 2 cold cantrip would be well within range
Also an AC 15 4 fire cantrip
