TOPIC: What to do about GREAT DMs?

What to do about GREAT DMs? 8 years 8 months ago #1

Just to try to lighten things up and improve the mood -

Just as there needs to be accountability for poor performance, I would love to see a way to reward excellent DMs for their time.

I apologize, I cannot remember his name, but the DM who ran the lava puzzle on my Saturday night Underdark puzzle run at 8:13 pm was fantastic. He's the guy with the great Scots/Irish accent - speaks Gaelic, black hair. Wish I could remember his name. I get him in a dungeon at least once a year and he's always amazing (if you know who he is, please let me know). He gave us just the right amount of info to solve the puzzle without giving it away, and his enthusiasm, demeanor, and descriptions of the action were all on point.

Incognito, Raven, and Brad Mortensen were all very fun in Grind.

Kudos to Kirk Bauer too for his first time DM'ing, despite us being his first Nightmare group on the spider with the illusionary treasure he was enthusiastic and made the room fun (and I had already done it before).

Anyone else have any great DMs this year? I was disappointed I didn't get Dennis Burdick, last year he was awesome as well.

Just off the top of my head have TD Comment cards where the DM writes their name on the card and they are hung on the wall somewhere. The Player can then grab a card, fill in the information (both good or bad) and deposit it at the XP room.

We do this for our competition BBQ to give feedback to the cooks and it works well. I know I would use it both for compliments and constructive criticism.

If any AC or Jeff is reading I would be happy to suggest a format.

I really like this; I would appreciate feedback on how I did, good or bad, to improve for next year~

I personally want to know who was under the Sable Final Puzzle Portal who received my token sacrifice of a large sac when I was at a lost about the puzzle. Was glad to see the room DM in my Sunday run as well though.

Coach Don is always great. I have had him a number of years and always feel he does a wonderful job.

All other DM's I had were good (except the one I mentioned in the other thread) just super wonderful. I know DMing can be a hard job so I do want to say thank you again (or for the first time if I did forget to thank you in the room before I left).

I had also lot of fun with the Salamanders on Thursday and Friday.

BC - is that who I'm describing? The guy with the accent?

I have to give outstanding Props to the DM in the 1:38 Sable combat Run for thinking on his feet. On Nightmare level, we solved the "Spider Web Puzzle (got VI from Spiders point of view was 6, Succibus was lust Demon and finally everyone other than the person touching the symbol had to be in the circle). After that I was curious of what would happen if I gave a Mystic Mushroom (return to life at 1 hit point) to the spider mummy hanging in the Web. the Dm stared for about a second, then started coffing and said his name was Lotus Blossum, a Monk (character class monk) and gave us a date of 400 years ago as when he and his party were ambushed. the DM got us a character Card for the 4th level monk and he survived the rest of the run (all the other DMs roared with laughter of how we got an extra "player", with one commenting it was bad to let npc's out of the holodeck ). That was the mark of a flexible and quick thinking DM (and I gave him an UR as a tip after the Run for his brilliance)

Had a great time with our Sable Gauntlet run at 12:38 on Sunday. Wish that one of them had taken up our offer to be our newly found Elf Wizard that we revived in the third room. It's a shame it wasn't the absolute last run or I feel like we may have had a party of about 15 or so by the final room. All our DMs that run were awesome and I hope they had as great of a time as we did. Pretty sure we got all of them to laugh the majority of the time, especially when we kicked the boss in the last room to death with boots.....and of course sacrificing our quacking dwarf fighter to the pool in an attempt to save his Icecrag brethren.

That's a friend of mine I finally convinced to come to Gen Con last year. He's not on the forums, but I'll pass along your comments for you.

That is an amazing story!

I also had the fellow from Edinburgh who was very talented. I also appreciated the female DM in the Spider Web word puzzle Sable Combat Sat 4:02, we had pretty much figured out the puzzle except one thing which she was nice enough to hint at, we got it yay. Heh heh. I really love when DMs are willing to work with the players.

Thanks to everyone for another great year!
