Full Disclosure: I'm biased. I love True Dundeon, and can't wait to get back into action every Summer.
But this year's GT run? Fantastic!
There were the usual glitches... Slow start, DMs double checking their notes, NPCs forgetting lines, some A/V not working quite right... Everything you'd expect in a test run...
And in spite that, still lots of fun.
The twisty passage to the Coaching rooms provided great atmosphere... Looking forward to taking another look tomorrow, since we walked through rather fast.
Coaching was chaotic as usual, but most people brought pre-made stats. yay!
The GT bag contained:
A random ONYX 2015 UR
A random 2015 Relic (mostly +3 deathcleavers and +3 staff, but 1 lucky guy got Avarice)
5 completion tokens (UC & Rare Underdark & Sable Gauntlet, & Rare Grind)
200 gp Underduck of Doom
Rare Garnet Sphere volunteer token
UR Garnet Cube volunteer token
5000 gp bar
Fallen Star Mushroom
Greater Alchemist Pouch
Set of ingredient tokens.
Not gonna give away the puzzles or combats, but they were hard. As usual, teamwork is very important, and wasting time is a recipe for push damage.
We played on the New Nightmare Mode... Brutal. (I was fully kitted, with +10 to hit, and missing on an 18 for one fight) ... But we still survived! (9 out of 10 did, at least. Sorry for Aussie Brad *snif* and serious kudos to the kind soul (Chip Bowles, if my memory serves) who was going to spend a WishRing to save him... Tho Brad declined)
The GT bonus room was an "archery range" with targets set up showing pics of tokens (including this years' transmutes) with large Fallen Star Mushroom & Greater alchemist pouch in the foreground, relics half-hidden behind them, and Legendaries barely visible in the waaaay back.
Everyone lined up for a chance to shoot 2 boffer arrows, trying to knock something down. Laz shot first, to demonstrate how heavy the arrows were, and how easy to miss! Quite a few folks hit nothing. Many hit something with one arrow. A few people hit with both arrows (or had 1 arrow ricochet & knock down 2 targets). Lotta fun to watch! And I really liked having a contest where your own skill made a difference instead of luck-of-the-draw!
Best part of the GT run? Getting to see everyone again, and get a first taste of the new dungeon!
Hope everyone has fun this year!
