Yeah, I'm fine deferring the treasure draws until GenCon, but it would also be an opportunity for something a little different as well.

Especially if there is a treasure box in the storyscape again. No need to wait until after a run to use your accumulated tokens.

In fact the people in line behind you at the end of your first run will thank you (or at least not silently curse you) as you pull 100 treasure out of the box.

I for one would be pretty bored at normal difficulty :)

I proposed something called "Nightmare-plus" several months ago.

Works like this:

Make up a little 3x5 card that says "nightmare plus X" and choose any number for X.
On the card, also write "AC minus X, To Hit minus X, Damage minus X, All Saves Minus X" and hand it to the coach filling out the party card. And have all your characters preprinted. Don't give the coaches the extra work if you haven't made it as easy as possible on them. Everyone in the party gets the penalties you chose.

As far as the the DMs are concerned, they play it like a regular nightmare run. So do you, except when they tell you to take damage, take an extra X.

There would be absolutely no extra rewards, treasure nor buttons, for playing this way. Just bragging rights. "We beat it on nightmare plus 20 with only eight fatalities!"

Pretty simple, really. You could apply the same idea to any level, I suppose, and only be as bored as you want to be.

Yup, that's the thread where we were talking about it. Was too lazy to look for it earlier.

I'm going to try one at GenCon this year... of course not that long ago this was the only way I played so I'm pretty familiar with it :) But it doesn't give me a very good excuse to buy as many tokens ;)

Yeah once I found it I realized you started the idea. I just suggested we self regulate it vs the DM having to.

Not sure if we should continue to go off topic in this thread, but I generally do like this type of idea, although to me (even though I know mathematically it is the same thing), I like the idea of making the monsters stronger rather than making ourselves weaker...

And I do think there should be some minimal benefit to choosing a harder difficulty, if only an unofficial ranking like you mentioned where we can see who ran at the highest difficulty and survived to some degree.

The original idea was kind of lame in execution. It got much better as you and Raven and others built on it.

The "make us weaker" takes almost zero effort on DMs, while "make critters stronger" is an extra burden on them. Seconds count. Mathematically it's the same, but one way requires approval from Jeff and the understanding that combat will go slower, because of the extra math. The other way doesn't.

But there is no extra material reward for naked or solo or dagger or other runs, so I see no reason for there to be any for Nightmare Plus, since the goal was to provide extra challenge without requiring the staff to do extra work, not wheedle more freebies out of Jeff.

But unofficial bragging and ranking on the forum, with assiciated trash-talk? Of course :)

What's the policy on buying/selling at WYC? Are there vendors present, such that monetary transactions between non-vendors are prohibited?
