TOPIC: Gen Con 2015 Ticket Price...

Re: Gen Con 2015 Ticket Price... 9 years 2 months ago #25

Still hoping to run two greedy sealed runs and two at Hardcore. Maybe if I start selling plasma this week, I can fit in a few more runs :)

Given the cost of attending gencon and staying in a downtown hotel room, $4 more for TD isn't going to scare me off.. :)

Thanks for the all thoughtful feedback. It is appreciated. And it is very scary to cross that $50 barrier, but it has to be done. Costs are going to keep rising every year so long as Gen Con continues to grow, so even if we held off for one year, it would definitely have to happen in 2016.

The ticket drawing was done early this week and emails were sent to the winners. I had to wait until the ticket price was settled.

We will be in Hall A again this year. I like that spot, and I am happy that we, for the first time since moving to the ICC, will be staying in the same spot for at least two years in a row. Hall A has access to a great "green room" that works well for our NPCs.

I also wanted to apologize for being somewhat MIA from the Forum of late. Personal family matters have kept me away from my laptop -- with token transmuting and workshop time (sets & props) getting first dibs with my TD time. We have made some really cool monsters this year, and we have been carving a lot of styrofoam to make some sweet set pieces.

I am looking forward to attending a haunted house trade show on Friday, as it will be great to see all the new stuff that is out. We go every year and grab items for this and future years. We get some great ideas off of what we see there.

But yet never forget where we came from especial from 2007 were $38.00 until now $52.00 and that is $14.00 increase about 38% in just 8 years. If this pace continue then the like hood it will be another $14.00 after 7-8 years from now. So by 2022, it will be $66.00 from that point it will be close to over 70% from the starting price of $38.00. That since last year has determine the popularly by selling out quick that gave the Gen Con idea to raise or squeeze out for more by passing the cost to Jeff to us because that margin of being cost effective to continue working process. But the real issue is that major of the population is struck in the same as little change as mini-wage $10.50-15.00 and costly device like cable, healthcare and even fewer vacation because no off set value. But actual Jeff has off-set the price by getting little more than what Gen Con has done little to no effort to offset it value for the whole experience. Like no locker, costly food and beverage, more parking meter, more convenience for the hotel, the more expensive it is and the only off-set this is become volunteer for Gen Con or True Dungeon, but only very limited the times of the whole experience of Gen Con and True Dungeon that shouldn't be working vacation to benefit from especially from family fun that all can't participate of differ ages. The true value of off-set is the trading and selling these tokens on the off season. Whereas last many people does this for their emergency case as family, medical, lack of employment, but mostly to bail out of Gen Con all together. This is a pattern that Jeff constant has to face periodical that he has no control, but really restrict him by contract of rule and regulation and also there will be more add it in the coming times like DM and cosplay is not allow to touch recently add it. What I love about Jeff is that willing to try his best of doing it different like having True Dungeon in Carbondale at one time only and only wishes that he has enough corporate sponsor in the industry of D&D and gaming. I personal feel that Gen Con is squeeze as much as True Dungeon as main attraction as they can. Where it is not treating Jeff like a superstar, but product to benefit from because Jeff has to work that much hard to advertise with ball and chain commitment. But the constant change of the format of the gaming mechanic and the evolving tokens has it limitation over times. The bottom lines is that the continual increase the price from here on out due to cost of run it, but actually due to the increase of population on the annually purpose. This tradition model for profit tactic by convention centers or companies usually is burn out consumers reaction that will normally lead to cancelation or reach it finally conclusion, just like movie tickets, cable T.V., and the freedom of speech will or has been phrase out because of greedy tactic than you couldn't afford by all of having memorable and having newly friendly community of people that want to common goal interest and the interaction into the gaming industry and it's community of fans. The balance of the duality of mankind is paying more for pain or pleasure because too much of a good things can be bad and not enough of it, couldn’t be worth it?

Sure escalating costs will eventually have an impact on GenCon. But as long as GenCon continues on its current growth arc they have little reason to change. Same for the convention center and hotels.

The WYC developments this year give me hope that there will be alternatives in the future. For me, GenCon has narrowed down to TD and one other event which I GM. And that event could go to a WYC like setting without much problem. The dealer hall has become so crowded I no longer find it a pleasant experience.

So I could live without GenCon, much as it pains me to say that.

Increased demand and fixed supply (space, hotel rooms) equals a mix of rationing, lower quality and higher prices. The laws of economics are as relentless and unforgiving as those of physics.

Blaming greed is as simplistic as explaining gravity as the earth sucking everything to itself because of avarice.

It's just how things work, as much as we sometimes hate the consequences.

And I agree, if TD continues to increase its footprint at WYC, or saw its way clear to add other venues, I could skip Gencon now and then. Do love Metzner et al running and commenting at the auctions, though.
