I signed up to be a Volunteer for True Dungeon at GenCon 2015!
(YAY! You should go volunteer too!)

One of the things I noticed while filling out the volunteer forms was this (new for 2105):

--Volunteers are NOT permitted to touch the players. As a TD volunteer you are not permitted to touch or come into any physical contact with the players. NPC's must stay at least an arm's length away from players at all times. Staying at an arm's length provides a safety buffer for both YOU and the players. Should a player touch you, please immediately report this to your DM and Adventure Coordinator.

also

--Report any problems to your area coordinator/director. We have an incident protocol that is new this year and all volunteers are expected to be familiar with the protocol and follow it.

Part of me raises an eyebrow at this... (because it's new, and different, and therefore challenges me in my geek-secure-comfort-zone) ... but part of me is also really glad to see it! I hope it isn't an issue -- that these rules & protocols are in place as a just-in-case measure -- but I think it's great that *if* something happens, we'll have a way of handling it, instead of ignoring it or going into denial, because, really, how could we possibly have problems like that?

My eyebrow raised when I read the line about arms length distance at all times. For coaches, this seems like a near impossibility due to the way coaching rooms are laid out.

I'm not suggesting coaches should be touching players, but that distance thing is an unrealistic expectation.
Have you looked it up in the TDb ?
Please post TDb corrections in this thread .

What??? I'm not gonna get a hug from the Guildmaster of the Greyhawk Thieves Guild. Not even worth coming to GenCon now. What's the world coming to?

i like the just incase fact of this rule, however is this really possible for DM's? as dark as the rooms are i found myself getting closer than that just to read players cards, not to mention mark off spells, and take tokins for leveling up, and watching the rogue's box

As I read it the arms length thing only applies to NPCs. The touch thing to everyone.

It still makes me curious.

agreed
it should not have to be written, but some people just dont know boundaries.
as far as coaching..it will be hard to be an arms length..unless those rooms get bigger

but looking at peoples tokens, i will have to be closer than an arms length..so i may just tell then to back away from the table..so I can look(and pocket the good ones)

Mike Steele...please back away from the table..Oh you dropped something..and poof..i have a new rare ring of fortitude

This rule is now written because a skeleton in the viper's pit harassed 2 females in my party and it apparently wasn't his first offense of the weekend. He was removed after our run.

Wait, were you in my group when this happened? A father and his two daughters? They disappeared before the end of the dungeon and I heard that something like this might have happened but was never sure. If so that is quite sad.
