If we just kept mithril as a 3-set like all the others and simply tossed in another mithril item, that would fix all the issues.
So what are the current Mithral items?:

1. Mithral Sword
2. Mithral Chain
3. Mithral Cap?
4. Mithral Shield (Future)
5. ?

i dont think the mithral shield is a definite (and likely wont be unless a lot of people push for it). i remember the sheild was suggested to be in this years set, but was altered into the helm because so many people didnt like the idea of the item being a sheild; the argument was something to the effect of: mithral chain was intended for rogue, ranger, bard. mithral longsword clearly targeted ranger, and even disallowed rogue to complete set. making a mithral shield bumps out rangers as well (for a ranger, the mithral sword and shield use the exact same slot; the off-hand), leaving only the bard or a less than optimal fighter/paladin/cleric to complete the set.
i am hoping they will be mithral gauntlets and greaves/boots.

Actually, the way I understood it, the mithral sword could be used in the off-hand, but was not required to be in the off-hand. As a matter of fact, the fact that it can be used in the off-hand allows the ranger to be in the unique position of gaining set bonuses from both the Celestial set and the Mithral (3-piece at this point) set, which nobody else can do. I think that making a mithral shield forces the ranger to have to choose between which set bonus they want, which isn't a bad thing.

My two cents there...

I'd say just have a bonus for 3 Mithral items and a bonus for 5 Mithral items, regardless of which ones they are. Once 5 items are out, it makes it possible for more classes to equip a 3 item set. Some might argue that's too easy, but we are still talking about 3 purps, which to the majority of TD players is a lot just for completing a set to get a little bonus.

I can't remember where I saw it, but I thought the bonus for the 3 piece mithral set was 1/2 damage from a breath weapon. 1/4 damage if you make a save. Maybe that was just an early suggestion, but it would be nice to know the official.

I think I saw that too. Has there ever even been a monster with a breath weapon? I think we are all expecting one in the next year or so, but bothering to gather a 3 item set to use against one or two attacks during that one encounter seems a bit weak. Who knows when the next monster would show up that it would be useful against.

Well, that's probably no rarer than running up against Evil Outsiders, so it might be on par as a set bonus.

It would be nice to see the official set bonus though.

I hopped in the Way Back Machine and found the thread about the powers of the new sets. My notes show the 3-piece set (helm, sword, chainmail) power is 1/2 damage from breath weapons, but I don't have any notes about what the 5-piece power will be. There are two 3-piece set powers listed in the forums, and I don't know which is going to be the actual power, so you can read about both of them in the following links.
Set powers
1/2 breath weapon

Also, here's one about the reprinting of the Mithral Chainmail.
Mithral Chain reprint

And as to the question of monsters with breath weapons... I'm betting we'll get to see a dragon soon!
