TOPIC: Ranger question

Re: Ranger question 15 years 1 week ago #13

The Token Guide seems very clear on the subject. It says the ranger must always use two weapons in Melee, and that when using Ranged weapons, the Ranger uses just one slider. So, it seems clear that the Ranger can use two Daggers of Throwing as melee weapons, but can only use one of them if throwing it.

One would think so, but as we all know - tokens have over-written the rule book. And was the rule written before the Daggers...thus it might be in need of change?

Daggers like throwing stars, could be argued that due to their small size, they CAN both be thrown from each hand as a single ranged attack...

Well, Bro, in this case I don't see how the Dagger Tokens have overwritten the rules, because nowhere on the Token text does it say that Rangers can get two ranged attacks by using the Daggers. It seems to me that it would take a revision of the rules to allow it.

Dave - any input on this?

It's easy to see (in TD terms that is). But it is not in the book - it is on the tokens...and in word of mouth...

A Ranger can use one "large" and one "smaller" weapon in both hands...OR two smaller weapons in both hands...didn't someone ask if a Ranger could use two Nightshade blades if they wanted to?

OK so with that YES in hand -= we say "sure" a Ranger can use two daggers of throwing for melee (That's a no-brainer)...but the question remains, can they both be thrown as a single ranged attack...

I'd be OK with allowing it - but then I think the MONK should get this same perk for throwing stars...

So maybe only one thrown dagger...I'm on the fence.

The shurikens specifically allow a monk to throw two in a round. (printed right on the token) Because of that, I'd have to say that the daggers can not both be thrown in one round. If they could be, it would have been printed right on the token.

Although there are some tokens (Nightshade's is a good example) where the only place to find out what they do is to look in the Token guide.

Unless I heard differently from Dave/Jeff, as a DM I would not allow the ranger to throw two daggers in one attack.

No the idea was that a Ranger would get two melee attacks, but only one ranged attack. The fact that daggers of throwing are a compound weapon and can be used, just like a hand axe as a thrown or melee weapon, does not mean that the Ranger can have two ranged attacks.

That is not what you told me last year when I brought up the question. I had asked if both daggers could be thrown at the same time and you had said yes, since they are both legal weapons for the ranger.
