TOPIC: 2009 Ultra Rare Token List

Having everyone under a fireshield at all times seems a little strong.  But if it is for just the mage it keeps attacks off of them which is what I figure the intent is.

<br />While the ring is open to everyone, it only has two charges and takes a precious ring slot.  Boots on the other hand do not have many choices - Boots of Free Action, Boots of Surefoot, Boots of the Leopard, and Boots of Elvenkind, thats it.  And really the Boots of Elvenkind are key to the rogue only and not for others.  Still I think it will be fighter only, but we shall see once Jeff provides some clarification, if any, and we must always remember, this is the beta list, we have a ways to go before the final drop dead list.

Oh, thanks for the clarification. I'm still new enough that I thought this was the final list. I may modify some of my comments and add some.

I am not sure if Jeff will accept other suggestions, but he will refine the ones he has chosen based on the feedback he is getting here.<br /><br /><br />Another Question about the ring, will its fireshield effect stack with amulet of thorns?  (Thus when hit the person does 4pts of damage back+whatever damage was dealt in fire)

<br /><br />I had originally posted my suggeted slaying weapons doing double damage (weapon damage only, before bonuses) on every hit against the "slaying type". 1st Ed. was always something like +1, +4 versus Such-and-such (it was enchanted *specifically* to kill that type of critter)... the odds of the special icon coming up, pointed in the right direction is pretty low... I could see only doing double on a twenty as another possibility.<br /> <br />EDIT- I was just looking at the Celestial sword and the Hammer of Thunderbolts, these are both also kinds of "slaying weapons". (Celestial Longsword versus Outsiders and the Hammer versus Giants)... whatever decision is reached on "slaying type" weapons, unless there is a compelling reason not to, I would think they should function the same. There is also the Sling of "Slaying"- truly an evil piece of work as it doesn't discriminate... Maybe it should be a "Sling of Impact" since it doesn't single out a type to "slay"? There are a host of types we can use for slaying weapons yet (Undead, Fae, Subhumans, Constructs, etc.) so it would be a good question to answer.<br /> <br />

<br /><br />Well, the point is, that it is probably heads and shoulders above any other UR that is going to see print. I've always played a fighter...and there is no way that I should be able to get one token that has this many effects, let alone cast a spell now. If this is class specific, the Wizard wins. If it's not, you're going to have every person that buys a $250 or more getting one of these because in terms of raw power, it's way stronger then anything else.<br /><br />If they wouldn't consider any kind of class restriction, I would say don't print it.

I would agree that the Ring includes two spells, and that would make sense to limit it to Wizards (and maybe Druids).  It really blurs the distinction between classes if everyone can cast the Burning Hands spell over and over again. 

I'm thinking repost the specifics on the ring...<br /><br />it is very close to a MUST TOSS item!

Mike is right. My expectation is that it is intended for wizard only.

It just has that old Baldur's Gate II feeling to it. The sorcerer that can cast any spell with 0% arcane spell failure, wear the +1 fullplate, and wield the Onyx Sword. Abilities bleeding into other classes isn't a good thing. It's like multiclassing with an item instead of a 2nd class.

Is the reason the Gearons mace is not a reprint is that the damage wheel is different?

Well if you look at what it replaces:  Ring of Fire Resistance (rare), Scroll: Fireshield (rare self only), and Burning hands (common).  It is a must have just for the savings on other tokens or a must remove due to overpowering effects.<br /><br /><br />Edit: forgot to add that this comparison was to show that it was too powerful to be included.
