TOPIC: Could 2009 be the year of reprint?

With so much cool stuff having come out, perhaps its time to stabilize the Token guide and reprint many of the older woodies in the new chippie format.

I mean here is just a short list of woodies that could easily use the face lift to Chippie status, and still leave plenty of room for some new items as well as reprints of classics.

Common
(I understand that most of the gems listed here were uncommon in past runs, but with the increase of gold per bag I think these would move to common status)
Hematite
Lapis Luzi
Tigers eye
Coral
Topaz
Bloodstone
Steel Flask
Animal Hide Armor (I can imagine leopard print)
Scroll Detect Magic
Potion Detect Magic

Uncommons
Scroll: Detect Poison
Scrolll: Endure Elements
Scroll: Melf's Acid Arrow (making sure to note the to-hit ac 15 like on Scorching ray)
Scroll: Mirror Image
Scroll: Mage Hand
Scroll: Purify Food and Drink
Weighted Net (I know this was a common before, but it should be equal to tanglefoot bag)

Rares
Moonstone
Onyx
Ruby
Sapphire
+1 Dagger
+1 Quarterstaff
Amulet of Armor
Bracers of Defense
Scroll: Blink
Scroll: Flame Arrow (making sure to note the to-hit ac 15 like on Scorching ray)
Potion: Haste
Ring: Feather Fall
Ring Frost Resistence
Ring Fire Resistence
Wand of Magic missle
Wand lightening bolt
Wand Melf's acid arrow (making sure to note the to-hit ac 15 like on Scorching ray)
Wand Detect Magic

Ultra-Rare
Diamond
Emerald
+2 Quarterstaff
+2 Gearons Heavy Mace
+2 Dagger
+1 Heavy Repeating Crossbow
Arrow of Slaying
Dragonscale Shield
Cloak of Displacement
Hand of Glory
Scroll: Fly
Savior Stone
Ring of Evasion

I hope most of those URs don't come back honestly.

Cloak, Hand, FLY and Ring are all dust gatherers! And that goes along with saying there are better RED replacements for them.

(oh and UR GP items...borring for someone who pulls this as a 00 bag)

I think (if it were my call), I'd bring back the big items that everyone will crave!

Mace, DS Shield and then throw in NEW stuff.

NOTE: Savior Stone (never in a set - it was a VOL gift...can't see it in a set and being anything but a last resort for many... Burner URs are rarely ever used, or should I say ULTRA-rarely ever used?)

Marilyn says that if they are just dust gatherers you should send them to her and she will put them to good use. =D

I kept my Savior Stone in the hidden pocket of binia's awesome sash, saving it for an emergency on the nightmare combat run - thankfully I didn't need it!
I too prefer that URs don't contain GP items (reserve tokens have replaced the need for large GP single tokens) or expendables (too valuable ever to use, unless I had about 6 copies of something LOL!!!)

With the PYP program, I have been able to get something "nice" for each character (though I don't think I have anything special for the Paladin, hmm, have to rectify that this next year) and know that they can use it over and over.

Fly could have been put to great use in the room with the Mind Flayer. Another player could have gotten into the fray!

I wouldn't mind if something had a gp value, but only if it had another function as well, like the Wish Ring. I would be definitely disappointed if I pulled a "00" bag and it was gold.

It's just the rising expectations due to the PyP. Back in the day, most of us would have been ecstatic at finding any purp. Now, since we've had the opportunity to pick and choose, getting a less than optimal one seems more harsh.

Bro, we had a Savior Stone burned on my final run, when our Wizard died from the snake bite and melted away to nothing.

From your list Nathan, I could see bringing Gearon's Mace, the Dragonscale Shield, the Bracers of Defense, and the Amulet of Armor back.

Well there are optimal ones and there are REALLY less than optimal...

Burners and GP at the UR level will always be jinxed as the bottom of the heap. Look at the hourglass for example. I think there are so few of them out there it isn't funny.

By the way - I'm still looking for one if anyone has one to trade! I'd put it at 1-2,000 GP value if anyone is interested in trading one to me.

I'm pretty sure I could find a pitchfork and some torches if I got a scroll of 'Fly' as an UR....
Blimey!
