OK, I'm just a little curious if enough people say they would like them lighter and IF this is even possible...maybe we could get the 2009 stuff made a little more travel friendly?

Personally, I just filled a case of 1000 woodies and second one with 1000 chippies, and the weight difference is really something!

Bro - lighter would be great for me! My shoulder was actually hurting after several runs carrying around my binder filled with tokens for the entire party - that thing is HEAVY!

Bro

I don't know. I think the majority of the world equates heavier with higher quality. What I'm referring here to is poker chips. The heavier it is, in general the more expensive (and durable) it is. I did a quick survey of a couple of sites selling poker chips and found one that sold 7.5g composites for $2/50 and 11.5g composites (similar pattern) for $6/50. That's half heavier but triple the cost.

11.5g-12.5g is the accepted industry standard (IMHO). I wonder what a TD chippie weighs?

I know I've thought about creating a template/stecil and painting over some of my chips to create a REAL nice (feel) poker chip set. That is, before TD introduced the trade ingredient trade-in program. I traded in (somewhere in the ballpark of) 1200 tokens.

I agree they are heavy. I too oufit my entire group. I created an indiviudal folder for each player (character type) using the plastic sheets that TD sells and a plastic folder from Office Depot. Each folder had between 3-5 sheets (one of which was empty at the start, so that they could fill it in with the bag they receive at the start and tokens they get during the run). All of these folders were transported in a backpack that has wheels. I checked the bag at the table, and distributed the folders to each players, thus distributing the weight. It really isn't bad this way.

So, I would prefer that they stay the same. It is a high quality product. I can work-around the carrying issues. Thiugh I'm not sure I could handle different weights on the slider table. I you don't know what I mean, try sliding a woodie and then a chippie. They go significantly different distances (in my experience).

Jim

Were those the red plastic folders holding token pages?

I saw some group with red plastic folders - looked really nice and organized! So much so that I had to run out and get me 10 to try and do the same thing...not that I equip an entire party so much - just because it looked like fun!!!

I thought the goal was to simulate the 3.5ed gold weight of 10gp = 1 pound. So every 10 tokens s/b about 1 lb. Which of course means if you take every available slot on each PC you are 13lbs in non consumables, then throw in potions and scrolls and misc items and you can easily get 30lbs in tokens. Then you add in anything you are taking in for trade and, phew, you can easily hit 50-100lbs. So I am in favor of lighter tokens, but I also understand the meaning behind their weight.

I would prefer that the tokens were the same size, shape, and weight as a professional quality poker chip. I would love to store them in poker chip cases. Having the poker chips the same dimensions would make storing, and counting them practical. If is have a case that fits 25 poker ships in a row, than I would know that I had 25 tokens if I filled up that row.

I would stay the same, or go lighter if it were an option. I love the feel of the current chips individual, but I popped my elbow picking up a case of 1000, and the chip case (proffessionally built for carrying 1000 poker chips) shows very definite stress wear from carrying around 600 for the con. I was quite worried the handle was going to rip off, though it held strong. I backed up the latches with strips of duct tape holding the case closed, just to be sure.

Possibly, I have 8 folders, each with a different color (orignally coordinated to the individual's favorite color). Red was one of the colors. You may have seen that and remembered it. Each player carried between 50 and 110 tokens (at the start of the run) and each individual folder wasn't that heavy. I can state with experience because I had one of the 110 token folders.

This year I got "smart". When I got home from Gencon, I simply replaced the used tokens and now I'm ready to go again (as opposed to removing all the tokens and starting next year from scratch). Of course, they'll change (and I'll probably add a sheet) with the introduction of the new 2009 tokens. But at least I have a good head start and are ready for TD:DC.

nope I saw 8 red plastic folders at a table... and I think they each had only one sheet inside.

I have one of the rolling cases that holds a thousand chips and I'm beginning to wonder about it as well from a durability standpoint. It doesn't seem to be latching as well as it used to.

Kim

The folders in general work great since I can customize each one base on character type. The Fighter, Paladin, and Barbarian have fewer sheets as they can't use scrolls (except Paladin can use scrolls marked ALL). I have all (most) the healing allocated to the Cleric and the Druid. The Wizard has an ample supply of scrolls and wands. The Bard has some non-combat scrolls that overlap with the wizard (stone to flesh is an example). And the rogue get some miscellaneous things (tanglefoot bags, smokesticks, Dust of Appearance, etc.) just so they don't feel left out.

One point though. I put tokens in the top row that don't need to be removed (armor, amulets, helms, gear, etc.) and TAPE THE TOP SHUT!

Or I leave the top row empty. These tokens fall out of that top row VERY EASILY!

Be warned! The first year I did this, I used Scotch Tape. (had a couple of problems). This year I used packing tape and had NO problems!
