TOPIC: Golden Fleece Woes

Golden Fleece Woes 4 months 1 week ago #1

I’m just starting to get into more transmuting. This year, after winning some 10x tolkens, I’m going after my first relic and the safe hold V. I had to scrape together 3 Golden Fleece for this to happen. Looking forward, even with max treasure of 25 for 8 events this year, I’m looking at about 16 monster trophies. Keeping 10 of those back for the multi year transmute, that doesn’t even get me 1 GF. I won’t play more than 1 of each virtual event, so I’m finding this a real barrier to getting in to the safe hold program. Thoughts?

Not sure if token trading is something you do or are interested in doing much of, but with 200 treasure pulls you have pretty good odds of pulling things you can trade for Golden Fleeces or additional monster bits. Also, since you don't care about the year of your monster bits, sometimes that opens up more trade options.

There's little reason to use 2023+ bits for GF when there are large amounts of GF in circulation currently. Can buy them or trade for them.

I'm not going to run out any time soon, but people can likely find them cheaper from others.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but if you are a new player THIS YEAR you're going to be short changed on GF. And the community has asked for GF to be this rare since from about 2018-2023 (the years I've been active) MBs were really abundant (except for 2019 lol). The MBs were higher % in treasure and recipes in this time frame barely used them;. People ended up with tons of GF and MB and no way to spend them. When I first started I think GF was like $60-80 and last year they were as low as $30. People were UNLOADING them at Skull Con for so cheap. Hundreds.

The community has asked for a couple things, such as recipes using more of them and lower % in treasure. And it seems that TD has listened. The unfortunate side effect is that brand new players will have a harder time getting GF and there are more requirements than ever. Your best bet is buying them for $30-40 in the secondary market imo.

I know this might not be the answer your looking for but I think a lot of us thought it was for the best.

That makes sense. So why can’t the safe hold V be more accessible to newer players a remove the GF requirements?

Safehold V is about $160 on the low end if you scavenged for cheap deals in auctions this year. I think most people would consider that pretty cheap honestly.

But you’ll have to go back to the Safehold development threads to read what people were saying about the recipes.

Keep in mind that unlike many transmutes, the Safeholds are all yearless. They are intended to be something you save up towards over time rather than build right away (especially the higher end ones).

IIRC there was mention of regular review and adjustment on the safehold recipes.

I think TDA also wants to encourage trading to some extent. It also sounds like there are lots of people willing to trade away Golden Fleece for what would be good deals historically.

I'll send you a GF for 6 MBs.

I don't mean to sound dumb but you can afford the over 2,000 dollars it takes to get all the treasure enhancers but you can't afford to buy a few golden fleeces or just buy a safe hold V???? I'm confused as to what the issue is.

But the whole point of having max treasure is so you don't need to do that. Especially with monster bits; getting more treasure is the ONLY way (besides buying from other players) to get more monster bits, so if max treasure doesn't get enough...
Do you buy components or the completed item? If you have most of the bits and only need a few, it is obviously cheaper to buy a few and transmute. But it doesn't take much for it to make more sense to buy the completed item...
But if you are just going to buy the completed items, why bother with $2000 of treasure enhancers? Is an occasional random UR worth sitting on $2000 that you could spend on other fun tokens...like those safeholds we just decided are better to buy than craft.

No, seriously, this exact line of thinking has been weighing on my mind for over a year now. The main reason I haven't sold my treasure enhancers is because it will affect the rest of the party, and they aren't going down in value, so I can cash those out any time I want.

Lots of great feedback and discussion, I appreciate it. There is a lot to the economy of this game regarding tokens that I am just starting to understand.

A little bit more info for those who wondered. I do not own a CoA. I wish I did! I have been very fortunate to have been in a group of very generous players during the last few VTD's that shared their extra CoA with me! How nice is that? On my own, I can get 8 treasure max because I recently bought the BoB and 1 Nugget. I have been playing TD for 14 years, but until recently it was only once each year at GenCon. This was my first year I just started to get more into the heavier side of the game, and let me tell you, I have spent a lot just in the last few months trying to "catch up". My level of playing is now at playing all the VTD each year, plus GenCon. I will probably only buy one $250 token pack each year, plus some auctions. That already puts me nearing $2,000 dollars and I just don't have the ability to try and get a CoA on top of that. But who knows, maybe someday I'll pull an Amulet of Treasure Finding out of my treasures. Until then, getting a relic and the basic Safehold is about my limit. I was able to get a totem this year, picking up all 40 pieces for about $700 in total. I could have gone for a CoA, but after playing for 14 years, I really wanted to be able to flip that character card to the back side at GenCon for the first time! Anyway, that's my story.
