TOPIC: Spirit pet combat questions

Do spirit pets (or other other alchemical weapons) work against foes with an anti-magic field? The Player's Handbook says that alchemical weapons' "damage is based on chemical reactions," which implies being non-magical, yet they attack with magic-like energy types.

Also, if you already have a weapon in your Ranged Mainhand slot, do you have to swap weapons to tell your spirit pet to "sic-'em?" This will particularly matter if in the upcoming redesign the previously-proposed take-a-turn-to-swap-weapons rule is enacted.
