TOPIC: Will wands ever come back?

I am not sure if this has been addressed recently, but as the spouse of a crazy wand-toting ferret, I was hoping we might see wands again in the upcoming years. Are there any thoughts on how they might be changed?

Don’t quote me on this, but I’m pretty sure they were mentioned in the discussions. But I also know here soon, we will be seeing class cards redone. Jeff and the TDA team wanted each class to become more unique in skills and more defined by their type. Not sure what this holds for Wands for wizards but I swear I saw something about it possibly being mentioned in a future discussion thread. I think I also remember something about them not being consumed anymore either but I’ll let a fellow wand user that remembers more chime in! I’ll make sure to bring it up in future discussions when they ask as well.

Mystic Staffs were the replacement IIRC.

Never say never, but no, they are never coming back.

They were formally discontinued. At first it was because the mechanics of keeping track of multi-use consumables were difficult, and then ultimately phased out for some other reasons I can't explain - however it was definitive, it was announced that there would be no more wands.

You can read some of the troubled history of wands in the TokenDB entries for them, which include this:

"General Wand Errata: Chargeless wands debuted in 2018. Although we loved seeing more wands being used, we felt that unlimited-use wands were not the ideal path going forward. Starting at Origins 2019, all wands became consumable, but wands no longer have a fixed number of charges. When a player wants to use a wand (old or new), they hand the wand token to the DM. Actions permitting, the player may use this wand as much as they desire for the rest of the room. At the end of the room, any wand token used is collected by the DM."

First wands were multi-use consumables, then for a year they were no longer consumable, then they were all retroactively changed to any number of uses in one room, and then discontinued entirely (you can still use your existing wands - just they aren't making more).

I don't know if this had any consideration in those decisions, but back when the charges were marked off with a marker, I know of people that would simply wipe off the marker after the dungeon to get the wands back to full charges, rinse and repeat.

As the crazy ferret wand wielding druid, I am SUPER sad to see them go. One of the tokens I worked really hard to get was the Medallion of the Mystic Mouth which allows the use of the wand as a free action. Which is pretty hilarious with the ferret druid familiar running around using the wand for the druid

Here's to hoping that my hard earned token doesn't become obsolete. Anyone here, let me know if you want to sell any wands I guess until they run out and then will have to retire the medallion.

I had a similar sadness as my first run ever I pulled a Fluorite Cube, got a Mystic Mouth in one of the first auctions I participated in as a PYP, and leaned heavily into wizard. Alas..

I definitely feel you, I'm in the same boat.

I'm always an optimist in situations like this, I'm still hopeful Rumor tokens come back.

I still have lots of wands. Of course, many are commons.

Perhaps some day the wand boosters will get errataed to work with mystic staves in some way.

And here I just transmuted a pile of older tokens, concentrating on Philosopher Stones...sorry Amanda!

I still have quite a few wands. I used to use them heavily as immunity detectors. Start with a common, if it works well, unleash with a rare.
Let me know and I can see what all I have.
