TOPIC: Nearly Nightmare Discount (3 UR) Universal Missile Build

Nearly Nightmare Discount (3 UR) Universal Missile Build 9 months 2 weeks ago #1

Based on the strength of the Deadshot set, I've been looking at a universal build that any class can equip and be nightmare capable, without breaking the bank.

Here is what I've come up with. It works OK for for all classes, although there are real improvement opportunities in some:

ClericDruid/Wizard builds you'll want to swap out some missile damage boosters for focus/spell boosters.

Rogues using this build will probably want a 4th UR of Nightshade's +2 Throwing Dagger so they don't have to give up Sneak Attack in this ranged build.

Very strong classes might want to upgrade to Pants of the Hare, and swap their weapon to a stack of +1 thrown weapons for the extra ~3-4 points of damage this will give them.

I've used the Cleric class to demo the build with, as it's probably the worse one for this.

Rangers, for example, gain an additional +4 to each of ranged to-hit, damage, and AC.

Bead: Master Ale Drinker’s Bead
Bead: Bead of Resolve
Bead: Bead of the Dire Bear
Torso: EmptyWrist: Bracelets of Frail Agility
Hands: Gloves of the Deadshot

Ioun Stone: Ioun Stone Stalker’s Orb
Ioun Stone: Ioun Stone Beryl Prism
Ioun Stone: Ioun Stone Tourmaline Tear
Slotless: Enchanter’s Whetstone
Runestone: Empty

The build leaves empty the Head, Torso, and Offhand slots. I'd suggest the Defender Set for those who can use them, and if not, something like:

Torso: Sniper Leather Armor, Stalker's Battle Coat, Robes of Dexterity

Head: Stalker's Headband

Offhand: An uncommon +1 AC / +1 to save type shield, or Captain's Cup

The tokens that boost specific saves in the Bead and Ear slots can of course be swapped around to what makes sense for this build.

Overall a build like this will grant on top of whatever Innate stats 5th level character has, with the Torso/Head/Offhand slots above:

+16 to hit with ranged attacks
+15 missile damage
+11 FORT, +12 Reflex, +10 WILL saves
+10 HP
+6 to AC

Which should put the player in a place where roughly slides of 11+ hit, they save on a save check of 11+, and monsters miss between 25 and 75% of their melee attacks (depending on how much you can up your AC with the 3 Torso, head, and offhand slots)

Eliminate the 3 URs in the build with:

Eyes: Goggles of Striking or Lenses of the Hunter
Hands: Blessed Tempest Gloves or the rare +2 version
Waist: Belt of the Leopard

However that would drop your to-hit low enough that I'd be concerned Nightmare wouldn't be any fun (although oddly enough your damage would increase by 2 or 3).

And, if you want to play at 5th level, Folio of Might for ~$5 probably

Might as well throw in a FoP: Moon Dog into the build. They are cheap and incorp comes up enough that being able to negate it is valuable
