TOPIC: Need some discipline: token trade/sale threads?

Re: Need some discipline: token trade/sale threads? 8 years 7 months ago #13

I was thinking this was rather simple. But looking at the descriptions of the forums it was made where there are gaps between them. Maybe the definitions of the forums need to be updated and streamlined.

Like:
Token Store - Storefront. You commit to having an inventory of tokens for sale or trade displayed in one thread and checking in roughly once a week.

Token Auctions - Auctions. One-time auctions here or elsewhere or ongoing threads of your E-bay listings.

Token Trades - Temporary Buy/Sell/Trade. Can be small or large but lasting no more than one year. Includes threads solely for a one-year PYP order.

On this topic, I am curious why your eBay Token Auction thread is in the Token Trade subforum instead of the Token Auctions subforum....

Kirk Bauer wrote: In my mind the three sub-forums should be used as follows:

Token Trades (Needs and Offers): one-time and/or transient posts looking for something. For example, if I'm looking for a Direwood Thorn or want to trade an UR for a different UR, I go there.

Token Auctions: for posting links to eBay auctions or holding forum auctions.

Token Stores: for permanent or ongoing token trading, where you will always have something you are looking to sell or trade. I think each store (player) should only have one post here.

I liked the idea of creating a Token Stores forum not only for my own store but also to make it easier to find other stores. But looking through the first page right now, Discount Dungeon has two separate threads (should be combined to one thread IMO), there are four threads from people trying to arrange group PYP purchases (should be done in the Token Trades forum IMO), Mike has two threads (although since he clearly separates out his Wooden Token Shop it makes sense to me), one person selling modules (should be Token Trades IMO), and one store that only buys tokens (debatable in my mind).

I'm not trying to offend anybody nor indicate that anybody is trying to break any rules because honestly there are no rules, but I'm wondering if as a community we can come up with some guidelines that we can follow and ideally even enforce a bit. I feel it would make it easier for people to find what they are looking for and/or subscribe to the subforums knowing the type of notifications they will receive.

Thoughts?

I generally agree with you. And I also see that there are some areas where it is not so clear, for exmaple: you have an ongoing WTB (want to buy) thread. Is that a "Token Trades (Needs & Offers)" or is that a store? You aren't selling... so... not a store. But you aren't looking to trade because you are buying... sooooooo.... Where do you go?

Personally, I do not put my WTB threads in the store because I don't want to muddy the waters of those people who are actually trying to run a store. And the Token Trades forum has long been the home of many a WTB or ISO thread, so I just post my WTB threads there.

I think we're making it too complicated.

Just take your best guess, understanding that people may have a hard time finding you if you post in the wrong place, and they might be too annoyed to deal with you if you make a pest of yourself or try to mislead people.

From a buyers perspective I liked it better when all the trade stuff was in one forum.

For the record I'm not trying to make a big deal out of this, because it isn't. Just for me as a frequent buyer/trader of tokens, if I want to check a bunch of the big stores for what they have I prefer to go to Token Stores and not have to sort through all of the entries that have pretty small selections.

But, on the other hand, if I want to know about people interested in smaller purchases, sales, and trades, I subscribe to the Trade subforum and get notified of every new update. But perhaps I don't want to subscribe to the Token Stores subforum and instead only subscribe to specific stores.

I was just thinking about how to use the three subforums to make things easier to find. It does sound like everybody has different ideas on what goes where so likely not worth any effort to address.

LOL! No Mas...No Mas!

The reason it's in the token trade sub-forum ties in with the subject of this thread actually. I wanted to keep using my existing eBay thread and asked Jeff to move it to the auctions sub-forum, but Jeff declined because he thought only temporary auction threads belonged there. Which I'm fine with, Jeff certainly has the right to define what goes where. :)

Brad Mortensen wrote: Not sure it matters. As long as any one person is only keeping one thread open at a time, and not bumping multiples. I mean, if anyone was trying to take over the first page with 20 threads, that would be rude.

But if you have one, lose track of it, and start a new one, I don't think it matters.

I don't even use the subforums. I just look at "recent posts" and open the ones I'm interested in.

Only time i open subforums is when i'm looking for a thread or browsing token trades.

Wouldn't mind a separate store thread, base it on longevity, inventory or the primary fact that they are selling based on cash/gp and keep a separate trade thread for those looking for trades primarily.

Not a huge issue at the moment personally.
