TOPIC: Item Clarification.

Ok I was wondering how this might work. I have the +2 Flaming short bow. Now it does not say it adds any fire damage to the attack. So last year during Gen Con there were some questions when using it vs the Troll mage and Fire Elemental on what kind of damage it does. Now I know this is not always how it works but going off of D&D 3.5/Pathfinder +2 flaming weapons do the +2 and then add 1d6 damage. Now since that is not the case can I assume that even though it is flaming it does not do fire damage since it does not state that it does? <br />I was wondering this because I was be annoyed if I got to the Smoak and the Dm is like nope it does not hurt him since its a fire weapon and he is a red dragon.

I believe the Flaming is basically flavor text.<br />to my knowledge as a DM we don't count it for you (say against a mummy), or against.<br />it's just a +2 weapon

I'm pretty sure there is an extra +2 damage for the flame already built into the damage wheel of the token.  If you are fighting a monster that has resistance to flame (as I suspect Smoak will), 2 points is subtracted from the damage dealt on the damage wheel (taking away the "flame" portion of the damage). 

Mike is correct.  The fire damage is built into the damage wheel; if a monster is resistant to fire, then the DM subtracts 2 points of damage from the slide.

Ok the problem I am seeing with that is , now you assume the only extra damage that is being done is by just the magical fire and not also by some magical enhancement to the arrow. If it was doing fire damage would it not be safe to assume that it would say that it does an extra 2 pts of fire damage like some of the other tokens state when they do addtional elemental damage.

<br /><br />I see your view, however...we're basing our rulings on clarifications that have happened before.  The Flaming short bow was one of the first chipped tokens, and as we've delved into elemental damage, we started adding it seperate.<br /><br />In short:<br />They are worded different

Ahh well if thats what it is then I wont complain now I just need a +2 sonic short bow.

Well that depends on how easily his feelings can be hurt..enough laughing and he might just leave..
