Anyone interested in pooling to go in on an 8k? There are some nice advantages including the Wish Ring, and those guarenteed sets. Especially the lore/rumor ones which could be a pain to put together otherwise. I figure we pool with people buying shares of 1k min until we hit the promise land of 8k. All the 'extras' would be determined by raffle with each 1k piece of the pie being 1 ticket. This way everyone has a proportional chance to get whatever. Of course we would all get the info on the rumors/lores.

So far we're at 6 of 8 filled.

Seem post below about details.

IN for 2! As long as we all can buy our seperate ways and have shipping to our own locations.

I'm sure we can work something out, even if it means we all pay a separate shipping fee.

I'm in for at least 1 share assuming we get this off the ground.

I may be in for a share. I am curious what constitutes as an 'extra' and how they are divvied up to be raffled. Obviously a Wish Ring can't be divided, but are you intending to break up the Onyx set? If I remember right from last year, one of the most difficult things to do is PYP since more than half the URs are part of the Onyx set.

I was planning on spending $1K this year and I'd be certainly be interested in joining a pooling arrangement. However:

- As previously noted, shipping could be complicated

- There could also be disagreements concerning the Onyx UR's

- Might also be complicated if some people want the condensed bags while others don't

But I'm sure these can be worked out. The added benefits to doing an $8K order:

- 4 extra UR's (8 x 1K is 16 Gold UR's and 16 Onyx UR's, but 1 x 8K is 16 Gold UR's and 20 Onyx UR's)

- Onyx proof sets of Common, Uncommon, and Rare

- Wish Ring

- Access to the food at GenCon

- Etc.

Between these extra benefits, I'm sure you'd be able to come up with something that keeps everyone happy.

- Incognito
The condensed isn't a problem. Jeff says he'll assort in any way you want as long as it's in allocations of 1k.

I figure onyx set (rares, uncommons and commons) will go up for raffle just like everything else.

The only thing that's probematic with this at all is the breakup of the URs but we have 16 degrees of freedom at the minimum to try to get everyone what they want. Spare URs go into the raffle.

As for the raffle, ideally we can just get Jeff to roll an 8-sider a few times when they're packing up the order to determine what goes where. Wish Ring, possible GT, onyx commons, uncommons, Rares, the 4 spare URs, etc. A few die rolls and it's all divvied up nice and fair.

So lets add some structure to this. If you are in, drop me a PM with what how many units you want an the corresponding URs you would accept. If you want to include a general want list, rank order your UR selections or identify which are deal breakers, all the better. First people to add up to a full set of 8 and doesn't clash in their UR selection is a go.

I'll put the deadline at 11/26/09, two weeks from now to try to get in on this. At that point, the order will be set and we all send out payments to Jeffco. Since some of us will want condensed, it'll all need to be taken care of by the start of the month.

And for Christ's sake, no waffling. If you're in you're in. If you're not, you're not. Tell me what your deal breakers are for URs and whatnot but if I manage to sort to everyone's listed satisfaction, I don't want to hear 3 weeks from now about someone backing out at the last minute and screwing everyone else over.

Yeah, a random raffle can work.

But I think there are opportunities where things can be worked out. If some people prefer the Onyx set or the spare UR's, you could figure out an arrangement. (as opposed to the situation where we each get the item we don't want but the other does, so we have to bother with shipping sets across the country). Etc.
Henwy, I'd be interested in going for one share of the pie, but I'm wondering about the onyx, rumor, and lore tokens. Do you think the TD folks would be willing to create eight piles of (randomly selected) tokens, each containing 15 onyx (C, U, and R), 5 rumor, and 5 lore? That way we would each get some of the special tokens. Jeff could then roll the d8 five times (once for each extra onyx UR, once for the wish ring), and add those tokens to the appropriate piles before mailing them out.
There is no charge for awesomeness, or attractiveness.

Short answer: no. Long answer, sure but it'd take a ridiculous amount of work. The onyx tokens, from what I saw, seemed to come prepackaged in a bag for each rarity. At least the URs seemed to be that way. I seriously doubt anyone is going to want to sort the darn thing into piles. It'll be winner takes all for each rarity type C-UC-R I think. It'll be asking a lot just for them to break open the UR bag to sort that out as we want it.

So with 8 shares (though an individual could get multiple shares), I was thinking it might be good to divvy the extra stuff into 8 piles, making them as equal as possible. (Rolling randomly could mean that the same person gets ALL the bonus stuff, if you keep rolling "8" for example). So, for example everyone random gets a letter, A through H:

A. 1 extra UR (first pick of Onyx UR's)
B. 1 extra UR (second pick of Onyx UR's)
C. 1 extra UR (third pick of Onyx UR's)
D. 1 extra UR & Complete set of Lore & Rumors
E. Onyx Common set
F. Onyx Uncommon set
G. Onyx Rare set
H. Wish Ring (last pick of Onyx UR's)

So A, B, and C only get an extra UR (no sets). So these three could choose their Onyx's first. (A chooses one, B chooses one, then C chooses one, continue until each has their three).

Then you go on to D, E, F, & G. Who also pick in order. (So the guy with the Onyx Common set gets to choose his Onyx before the winner of the Onyx Uncommon set).

And whoever is lucky enough to get the Wish Ring gets last pick of the Onyx UR's.

What do you think? Is it too complicated or too much work? I just figure that by trying to balance things out, everyone will end up more satisfied. Obviously you can play around with things but this is just an example.

I'm personally not interested in balancing everything. Mostly because I know it's going to be a fool's task. There's no way you're going to satisfy everyone for something like that so it's pointless to even try. Random is the only fair possibility and if someone gets lucky, so be it.

Okay, that's a fair point. I was just throwing around some ideas. I'm certainly willing to go with whatever the rest of the group wants. No need to be upsetting the apple cart! =D
