TOPIC: What Needs a Reprint in 2010?

Re: What Needs a Reprint in 2010? 14 years 7 months ago #73
How about reprinting the Horn of Plenty? There is a serious supply/demand imbalance when they frequently sell for $450 each on ebay.

Uh, bad timing on the topic. Especially since Jeff and Lori briefly made the Horn of Plenty available right before GenCon (randomly replaced some Ultra-Rares). So they already kinda reintroduced the Horn of Plenty. To avoid setting bad precedent, I imagine they'd wait a while before doing so again (if ever).

Plus, as others have noted before, Horns of Plenty do result in increasing costs for True Dungeon. So you're trading some short-term gains for longer-term expenses. (You might also anger some Horn of Plenty holders, who tend to be large token buyers, so this can result in additional unpleasantness).

If it was a PYP, then the value would be much less than $250 per Horn, which I don't think would be worth it. If TD was really hard-up on the cash, they could randomly insert Horns (NOT PYP). Or maybe sell individual Horns for $450+. Or maybe if you place a $1000 order, one of your PYP's could be a Horn. Something like that. But I think TD would have to seriously be in dire straits (or would generate major income) for them to risk reprinting the Horn.

Not to say the idea is impossible. But there are plenty of challenges it would have to surmount.

Truth be told, many of us were quite surprised when they made a comeback just a few months ago. So who knows? Anything could happen....

I wasn't aware of the backstory on this. Speaking from the perspective of someone new, it appears to be easily the most useful purple as it can be used by all classes and is useful in all situations. Both groups I ran this with this year had multiple players with the Horn. It's next to impossible for newer players to get.

I think Jeff was pretty clear that he'd never reprint the Horn of Plenty, and he was just offering some of the old ones that he'd found as a special limited time incentive.

Reminds me of getting into Magic tG at 4th edition...those Moxes and Black Lotus were impossible!

Impossible? Not really... Exceedingly difficult? Very, very, very much so... This is only my second year playing, and I managed to acquire one.

What did you pay or trade for it?

Well, let's just say I got it for less than $300, but more than $200... other than that, I won't disclose too much :)
It's certainly not impossible to get one - there's one for sale on Ebay right now, and I'm sure there will be more for sale in the future.

Yep, I bid on it, but was quickly outbid. I shouldn't say impossible, but impossible for a reasonable price.

Depends on one's definition of reasonable then...

I got 3 of them with the PYP plan back in the day...they were worth $250 to me. And to date, this is the only double token I have ordered.

It truely is the Black Lotus of the game!

Indeed it is, and I agree, it depends on one's definition of 'reasonable' in that I think it's already starting to pay for itself :)

I think I had the FLY potion token in 2005/6 but dropped my stuff in the training room and lost it --> What I think is needed back is this potion. How else is a Paladin going to get to the Red Dragon?
