Re: What Needs a Reprint in 2010? 14 years 8 months ago #25

I heard somewhere before that there is a constest to think of new tokens? Is that true? When does that happen?

Jennifer

There will presumably be another design-a-purp contest. Sometime soon Jeff will ask for ideas for tokens, and traditionally if he uses your idea for a purp, he gives you one.
Nope. I meant to pick it up at gencon but it slipped my mind there too.

I figure Jeff must have a checklist somewhere so it's probably not a big deal. If I had played fighter I probably would have remembered but I didn't in teh early runs and I bowed out of my last 3 runs due to various reasons.
Instead of potions of death's door, how about an artifact that only the Cleric (or maybe the Druid) can use to raise folks from the dead? Say a purp with three uses, now that punches are being used, it shouldn't be unbalanced.

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please do not create items that require you to deface a PURP. They will not be used by the majority of the people acquiring them, thus, do not solve the problem of running low on death's door tokens.

I agree that most of the tokens should be new. Here are a few I wouldn't mind being reprinted (in some form):

5 and 8 pt heals (scrolls and/or potions)
Death's Door
Bull's Strength/Cat's Grace
Bless

From Inconito's list:
Rings of Fire and Frost resistance
Wands (MM, Lightning, Melf's)

Another item(s) I would like:
Detect Magic (scroll and/or wand)

And a couple of new items:
Another slotless item (maybe something like -1 damage from melee attacks)
Prayer scroll

Oil gets tricky because of its flammable and friction reducing nature, players could use it to "grease" a floor, or douse a foe with, or create a flame thrower (Oil+waterskin+ burning hands) So I would be a bit leery of allowing Oil into True Dungeon as it can be such a game changer.

Items I could see would be:
Whetstone
Medieval Food stuffs with no healing properties (Wine, Turkey Legs, Roast Pig) where you could then use them as bribes for hungry monsters.
We already have Orc Rations, Regular Rations...how much food do we need?

Oil could be tricky...but there is always the Dungeon rules to keep them in check. If a party wants to throw oil on the floor, the DM says there is magic in place to make the oil disappear - or douse it or an imp appears and takes the oil in mid-air...

But it is just for the multitude of uses, that I think oil is a good thing to have in the line up. Keeps players thinking.

I agree. The first few parties might get away with using oil in ways that Jeff didn't intend, but he comes around and modifies things to keep the implementation of the dungeon in-line with his intentions. Having an oil token doesn't worry me a bit.
