TOPIC: Wish List: UR-Relic-Legendary Progressions

Wish List: UR-Relic-Legendary Progressions 14 years 3 months ago #1

I know several other threads have involved musings on potential transmutation progressions, but I figured I'd try to open a spot for us to collect our UR-Relic-Legendary token ideas and wishes.

Here is my first wish list progression.

Gloves of Dexterity: +2 Dexterity
Gloves of Alacrity: +4 Dexterity
Murphie's Gloves of Legerdemain: +7 Dexterity

It is pretty simple and straightforward, but I see it as a good compliment for the Girdle of X Giant Strength progression we have this year. I think the Legendary version could either be +6 or +7, but I went with the higher amount to support the classes with odd dexterity scores. The extra bump would obviously incur a higher material cost in the Legendary recipe. The big caveat is that we would need to see a reprint of the Gloves of Dexterity, but I'm not sure that is a bad thing.

Nice idea and I agree on the gloves.

I had an idea but it was more along the lines of the supreme ring Relic.
Needing : Widseth's Lute and Briano's Bodhran and possibly something else, or maybe just 1 of every instrument, to create the : Intrument of the Bards - no hand requirement allows casting and attacking while singing.
The lengendary upgrade would add more damage, boosting from +2 to +4 and add +1 to all saves.
Sweet a combat room, we won't take damage!

I'd love to see some legendaries with cool powers instead of only stat boosts.

Cloak of Displacement (50% Miss) --reprint
Cloak of Invisibility (as Cloak of Elvenkind and Cloak of Displacement)
Harry's Cloak of Invisibility (Cloak of Elvenkind + 75% Miss)

OR

Gloves of Grasping (+2 Str and can't be disarmed)
Gloves of Iron (+4 Str and can't be disarmed)
Titan Gloves (+4 Str and can't be disarmed and may wield 2H weapons with 1H)

OR

Amulet of Wonder --reprint (but clarify that it's always a roll)
Amulet of Wonders (gives a cool PARTY effect every year, limit one per party)
Tallon's Chaos Amulet (As Amulet of Wonder, but may choose (not roll) for power)

I love the idea of transmutable instruments, but I see two potential pitfalls with them.

1.) Widseth's Mystical Lute would need to be reprinted (and Briano's if this progression isn't implemented next year). This is based on the goal that all Relic-Legendary progressions are intended to be achievable for both new and veteran players.

2.) I'm very wary of class-specific progressions, especially single-class ones. If this year's crop is any indication, the intent is to have these progressions open to all classes (even if they are more favorable to some). Limiting the classes who can benefit from the progression limits the amount of people who will expend resources to make them.

I like this idea, but I'm not sure I would go for the Relic unless I was planning to go for the Legendary version. But, oh man, would I go for that Legendary version!

Have we seen much in the way of disarming in TD? I really like the core of this idea, but I could even see the Legendary power showing up at the UR level. How about this?

Gauntlets of Iron Grasp: May wield 2H weapons with 1H
Gauntlets of Steel Grasp: +2 Str and may wield 2H weapons with 1H
Luap's Titan Gauntlets: +4 Str and may wield 2H weapons with 1H

I'd probably swap the Relic and Legendary effects here, and just have the Legendary function as a regular AoW for the party (with a die roll). But, that may be going beyond the power-level of even a Legendary.

I wouldn't mind seeing the classic long sword turned into a relic legendary item. It would be cool to have

Uncommon Long Sword
Rare +1 Long Sword
UR +2 Long Sword
Relic +3 Long Sword with some added power perhaps.
Legendary +4 Long Sword with some added power as well.

The long sword is just such a classic icon of D&D, it would be neat to see it back in print and to have a great version of it.
