TOPIC: HEY! What are you doing?

Re: HEY! What are you doing? 15 years 6 months ago #73

Putting off going to bed to see if my 2 year old (who was up sick last night) is going to stay down tonight.

Every full night of sleep is a blessing, especially with three boys (all three of which get growing pain - leg aches).

HEY - could I threadjack my own thread? :jacked:

Does anyone have any realistic cures for nightly leg aches? Wife used to get them bad as a kid and now it seems all three boys are as well. They come and go and we have tried OTC drugs and potasium rich foods in the evening (that seemed to help...)

But still - the oldest will wake up and hurt so bad he comes to get us in total tears!

Do the boys take any kind of calcium and/or vitamin C suppliments? Or maybe some calcium enriched OJ before bed?
Yep - they get a vitamin in the AM...

I'm not a big fan of VIT C at night - for one - I am a believer that VIT C can jazz a person up. I know if I take it I get a burst of energy or at least some kind of boost. Plus it is an acid (right, asorbic sp?) - not something all that great at night...(might be an ole wives tale...but I tend to feel it when I pop 1000MG on an empty stomache).

Just tossing that out there.
I know I drink juice when I walk lots to help flush out lactic acid which causes aches.
And my mom takes calcium before bed for leg cramps at night.

*hugs* Hope you find something that works for the boys.

hmmm Thanks Sis!

Thought it was Potassium that was great for leg aches not Calcium. Will have to look into that, maybe both help!

As for the cause...we are not sure if it is lactic acid or just some wierd growing pain. Just fishing for any help...it is no fun for any of us.

i try to sleep with some kind of support between my knees. it helps to relieve the stress/pain on my joints the next morning. i'm not sure if you are talking muscle or arthritic pain, not this seemed to help both for me.

I find that a knee-pillow helps me too!

But the way my kids sleep - I don't think that would work or help.

Growing pains and charley horses... I feel for your boys- I had a lot of that growing up. Unfortunately, I don't have any good remedies to share.
Legally... its questionable. Morally... its disgusting. Personally... I *like* it.
