If you are in need of a live event look toward Gamehole Con, it seems much more likely with the vaccination schedule for the USA and doesn’t have as many international attendees.

large groups scare the crap out of me. i friend had a superbowl party. i did not attend. now over half of the his family has covid.

Same for us. Large groups are going to have to be a thing that the husband and I work towards. A friend of ours attended a wedding a month or so ago and of the fifty some odd guests well over half of them got covid and things did not go well for some.

We've already decided to clear our con schedule this year, partially because that way we aren't waiting on the edge of our seats going 'will they, won't they?' in terms of if they will put on a live show or not. And also partially to see how things will be implemented, because we figure that there will be a learning curve as new safety measures are set up.

I absolutely can not wait to get back to live cons, but I figure I've waited this long, I can wait a little longer to ensure I can go enjoy things safely.

i still do all my usual running, not the large crowd thing is out.

i went to a funeral of an uncle in law recently. i got there real early and as soon as i saw the first person without a mask (which took all of 15 minutes) i left and waited in the parking lot. because of the cold and snow, everyone was wanting to huddle under the awning. i counted 6 masks for maybe 35 people. i stayed as upwind as possible and 20 feet away.

I don't think comparing conventions to sporting events works. I attended a few football games last fall. With the way stadiums designated empty seats between each group it was easy to maintain social distancing. Cons are completely different. You can put space between the games, but how do you maintain distance between the people playing the same game? Playing with a group of people for 1-4 hours and then moving to the next game and the next seems like the ideal blueprint for Covid spread. Unfortunately, conventions feel like one of the last things we will get back.

We were thinking how you could manage the dealers room and if I'm being honest, I would be entertained to see a gencon dealers room take up four or five city blocks minimum lol

I think cons can happen. I hope they will happen. If they happen I will go.

Seems like every day we are getting encouraging news (J&J vax). I know, there is also discouraging news (COVID variants).

I’m getting my first vax shot tmr - yay, But I will still be following all masking and distancing guidelines, especially when we get back in the classroom.

My gut is that we won't be able to GenCon safely, unless *maybe* if they bump to later in the fall. This year will actually be the first in about a decade where that won't ruin my son's ability to come with me, so I have a glimmer of hope there. But if it does happen, it's going to take some serious consideration and thought before I can say I'm going, and that's with my just having gotten my first jab today.

Basically, I feel like GenCon can't happen safely this year, but I fervently hope something happens that will prove me wrong.
