San Diego Comic Con cancelled their in-person 2021 event scheduled for July 22-25. Instead, they will do a virtual con July 23-25 and will attempt to hold a smaller in-person con sometime in November.

This doesn't necessarily mean anything with respect to Gen Con other than its another large con originally scheduled two weeks prior. Plus, California has generally been more restrictive than Indiana with respect to Covid. Just thought it was worth noting as more cons make decisions regarding 2021.

Indy is relaxing their restrictions for the NCAA basketball tournament games. What happens during that time and after may be telling.

Indiana definitely less restrictive than CA.

Still keeping my fingers crossed for GC 2021. I'm scheduled for my first shot on Weds! In the GC surveys I said I supported requirements like masking and vaccinations. August is a long time away, and I think the J&J vaccine could have a big impact on helping us get through the pandemic.

Mildly disappointed in this announcement.

It's too bad - Registration for SDCC 2020 was the first time in years I was able to get a badge on the first day in years. Then 2020/2021 cancelled. Sigh.

I will be crushed if GC 2021 is cancelled.

Like I said, I am hopeful. Numbers have been improving, vaccinations going up, now the third vaccine (one shot! no super freezer needed!). Keeping fingers crossed.

If GC is happening I will be there.

Well... and the NCAA is headquartered in Indy... If you're going to have the event somewhere, might as well have it here.

Stay masked up, keep 6’ from your fellow human beings, and help as many people get vaccinated as possible. There is a chance!

Also don’t be crushed, remember that if they decide not to have it that the decision is for your health and the health of others.

If you are in need of a live event look toward Gamehole Con, it seems much more likely with the vaccination schedule for the USA and doesn’t have as many international attendees.

can totally relate. Granddaughter had her 21st birthday a few months back. I waved to her from 12 feet away and wished her Happy Birthday. The grandparents on her mother's side took her out to eat at a restaurant. Several days later most of them had covid. They're all ok now, but the other grandfather ended up in the hospital for 3 weeks and had to walk around with an oxygen tank for another month. There will come a time when I can make it up to her safely.
