It is the only way to be sure.

I love conventions just as much as anyone else but I love all those attending even more and I want all of them and their families safe.

We all know what an incredible risk it will be exposing everyone to the crowds we see at conventions. It is time to stop pretending the risk is not real.

It is indeed about safety.

All cons need to cancel for 2020 just to be completely safe. It is the only way to be sure.

So is your goal to have TD preemptively shut down for the year?

Because TD is not in control of the cons. If your goal is to have them all shut down to protect public safety perhaps you should speak to them directly. But I'm breaking my own rule by continuing to engage here so peace out.

It makes sense that the conventions want to see how things progress before deciding whether or not to cancel. Origins has a 1 May Go/No Go decision point, and I'm guessing that GENCON will also make a call well before GENCON is scheduled to happen.

It's certainly an option for any attendees to cancel their reservations now if they don't want to wait that long. I've checked the housing block to see if any great downtown rooms have become available. So far the closest room is still 12 miles away, so it seems safe to say that most attendees are OK at this point with waiting to see how things develop.

There's no good way to know what the situation will be in three months, because there's no good way to know what the situation is now. The USA dropped the ball on testing in a major way, and we're just now starting to get moving on that. At the moment estimates on current level of infection are extremely rough. We've got a good idea how many are seriously ill, no idea how many are moderately ill or just carriers. Adding to that uncertainty, there's massive differences on how we're responding to it at the state and local level, and a good bit of confusion on the federal level.

Suffice it to say, we don't know what next week is going to look like, let alone what the state of the infection will be in June. Alert and cautious is the way to go here. Only you can make the call if you're canceling your reservations, but I'm going to wait until there's official word.

I work with older adults. My organization has been spending a lot of time and energy helping senior living facilities put appropriate policies and procedures in place and comply with all government directives. I take this very seriously. Very seriously. I'll call out anyone who doesn't.

At the same time let's make evidence based decisions. Not doing so is part of how we got where we are. So let's wait to see where the numbers lead us. Set sensible decision points and make good decisions at those points. Have contingency plans for all eventualities. Take it seriously, but don't panic.

It is up to each convention to decide if they are going to hold the convention based on the information and restrictions they have to abide by. It is too early in the decision-making process to cancel all conventions for the year.

If they hold the conventions I planned to attend, I will go. I will also volunteer as I planned. It is nice to be retired and make decisions based on the information available. Each person will make their own decisions.

I wonder if the people on the beaches on spring break evaluate things like convention organizers do?
