TOPIC: Coaching room logistics question

Coaching room logistics question 1 year 11 months ago #13

My group carries 2-3 binders through the dungeon with the tokens we are equipping. Bag check is for anything we aren’t using (often the 10 packs, treasure draws from previous runs, and extra builds/tokens that aren’t being equipped). Weapons, consumables, and rogue stuff stay out/at hand so they can be used during the run. TEs have to be carried through (always have) and shown at the end now too (when they are shown has varied over time).

We follow the rules. I didn’t mean to imply that we don’t.

I also carry a huge backpack with my token binders in it. It’s heavy and annoying but I still do it. I will say I have seen roller luggage from some more known players and I didn’t even know that was against the rules lol.

BeLinda Mathie wrote: Not to be That Guy, but technically, you are supposed to bring any token your character is equipping (or that you are loaning to another player) into the dungeon. (See attached screenshot from the Player’s Handbook.) Practically, I’ve never needed anything but my weapons, consumables, and, lately, TEs to show in Epilogue. But in theory the DM could ask you to show your armor or rings or what have you. (As Fred said, it’s a good idea to have tokens with special effects not on the party card available to show, but in my experience this most often applies to Rogues. My husband uses a small coin book to carry his Rogue gear so he can show it on demand.)

You can check anything else at the bag check. It’s usually only a short walk to get back to bag check, but there could be a line as other players check or retrieve bags. Allow 5-10 minutes to get to bag check and back. The good news is that if you have your character set up in the app, the coach will likely just want to see your stats and won’t ask you to lay out all your tokens on the mat. This saves time, and should allow plenty of time to run to bag check to drop off anything you aren’t bringing with you.

I will be that guy. All tokens you are using are supposed to go with you through the dungeon. Though I haven't seen a reason for this, it is the rules and might be for some sort of reason we haven't a clue. If it shouldn't be a rule then let's lobby for it not to be a rule, not just break it because we don't know why it is a rule.

Rolling bags are not allowed in the dungeon. This is a rule. Again if it it shouldn't be a rule then lobby for it not to be a rule.

Why am I being that guy. Because they are the rules. If we don't like them then lobby for them to be changed. If there is a no we have the rules for a reason then respect TPTB and follow the rules, it isn't that hard most of do it.

Okay done being that guy....for now.

The in-person dungeons are made to be handicap accessible, so I don't see why a SMALL case on wheels, like a Zuca, would cause any problems. It's not like these bags would hurt Laz by rolling over his foot or tear down the walls! Obviously large international suitcases/wardrobes shouldn't be pushed through the dungeon, but small carry-on or close to carry-on cases are no bigger than some backpacks and messenger bags I've seen in the dungeons. There are many bags out there which are hybrids and it would be hard to classify them as backpacks, messenger bags, or roller bags. I have even looked at buying a Zuca myself, but I haven't because I don't want to test the waters on whether it is allowed.

And what I don't have to spend on chiropractor bills can be spent on more tokens!!!

Two of, but not all, the issues related to rolling carts include:
  • Parking: Most rooms and hallways are very dark. Whether the cart is parked right next to its owner or off to the side, there's a decent chance someone won't see the cart in the dark and trip over it. Obviously, human safety is the most important thing, but we also need to consider the sets. Someone tripping could VERY easily take out a good chunk of scenery, and in doing so, create even more hazards.
  • Quantity: If we let one person bring a rolling cart, that's tacit approval for everyone to bring a rolling cart. Now we potentially have ten people with rolling carts in rooms that are already small, not to mention dark. See above for how that turns out.
Before pounding on your* keyboard to yabbit me about "this one time" when you witnessed an exception or try to poke holes in my logic, please stop. We have our reasons and these reasons were not pulled out of our "donkeys". Please respect our right to decide what's best for our game, players, and staff.
Thank you.
