Josh M. wrote: I'm not loving the magebook as a neck item. I absolutely adore the flavor of it, wizards are all about extra flexibility and preparedness. That being said, gaining a bit of flexibility for level one spells in exchange for one of a bunch of solid neck tokens feels like a bad trade. I can't see ever equipping it. It'd be a lot better as a slotless token. If that's too powerful make it "slotless" but reduce the number of charms or ioun stones you can use.

It provides, as currently written. +0 damage over existing first level spells as no common or uncommon scrolls exist that beat 6 to all, 8 to 1 or 12 with a slide attack

It provides flexibility in level 1 spells.

It's a strictly DPS loss as a neck in all instances, even the rare medallion of focus

It definitely should be placed back into the slotless pile. That's a good spot for a utility token like this.

In TD lexicon, "Ranged" means spells and missile weapons that require a slide to hit.

Hey Jeff.. tokendb disagrees with you

tokendb.com/token/ioun-stone-banshee-prism/

Remember: “Ranged” is an umbrella term that encompasses both missiles (physical items propelled through the air) and spells (cast magical effects).

Seems like Druegar might need to do some db editing.

Thanks for the feedback. Can you tell us why drinking a Potion as a free action when you start a combat is not something you like to do? Sorry for the dense question!

I can’t answer for everyone, only myself, but this is why I don’t start combat with drinking a potion:

Because I have to get the DM’s attention, I have to hand them the potion, and wait for them to note the potions effect on the combat board. And even then, odds are good I’ll have to remind the DM to include the potion effects at some point after the first round, as many DMs forget.

If I do that, and 3 or 4 party members do that, it takes 2-3 minutes. We could have slid an entire round of combat in the same time. And in the end, most “failed” combats are lost because parties run out of time, not because they were 6 - 20 HP short of killing the monster.

I tend to only use potions in puzzle rooms (for healing, etc) or if they make the difference between hitting the monster, or being completely unable to hit it (Leaping Attack for Flying foes, or Healing potions which remove Charm if I’ve succumbed, etc). Even then, sometimes I just try my Sneak Atrack, and then hang back & use my slider to bump the heavy hitters into criticals, and Don’t Worry about any damage I may or may not do.

So, on Cranston's Helpful Hat....

Am I alone in thinking it's too powerful? Being able to equip a single head slot item which grants +5 to hit with all ranged attacks (since it lets you equip Sniper Spectables slotlessly) seems like something I'd expect to see on a legendary, rather than an UR.
I play Rogue. Occasionally I even play Rogue well.

Its REALLY good.

The main classes to benefit from this are Ranger, Bard, and Rogue (with Lenses of Agility). Not sure if other classes will run this as to not break up sets/not use Crown of Expertise. Really just gives those 3 classes a bonus for more + to hit so potentially frees up some slots for more damage? As a bonus of only + to hit, it doesn't add the other bonuses that Dex would provide.

Its very strong, but I don't think it is OP. I'm all for making Ranged builds more on par with melee.

In the vein of wanted reprints and functional reprints maybe we could potentially convert two wanted tokens into 1 functional reprint?

Remove the Bracers of Power and in their place print instead

Nightshade's Crystal - Slotless
Sneak Attack critical hits double sneak attack damage bonus
May cast a first level spell as a scroll without expending 1/room
May not equip +2 Staff of Power

Gets 2 highly wanted reprints that are currently functionally slotless into a single token that is slotless, does not allow the +2 SoP to stack. (Don't think it needs to mention Nightshades as stacking them wouldn't do anything big?)

Just a thought on a way to get 2 wanted reprints in a single token

It's definitely solid but I'm not giving up my Crown of Expertise for it.

Classes without a solid UR helm probably would.

But anything that's boosting Ranged to hit instead of Melee seems good IMO. Ranged could use a bit more love.

Yes Time is your greatest enemy in the Dungeon (yourself is also an acceptable answer).. Over the years Party size has increased, token complexity has increased, time has not increased. But that is a whole other topic.

You try to get them to play the game, but all they want to do is play the rules. - Ardak Kumerian

If Rogues ever get a non-weapon way to double Sneak Attack damage I think it would be good to stipulate that no other damage multipliers can be applied to the attack. It would be too good with Assassin's Crossbow otherwise, but it would be great if it could benefit other ranged and melee weapons.

Continuing to think about the spellbook. If it needs to be in the neck slot to maintain balance in the game, then so be it. If its in the neck slot just because of some arbitrary rule that the neck slot has to be used because that's the intent of the legendary path, then that doesn't seem like a good decision. It sort of feels like you're forcing a square peg into a round hole and not giving spellbook its fair due. Sort of the reason you're putting the familiar off until 2022. The spellbook should be a "book". If its not, then it just doesn't feel right. I'm totally ok if the relic and legendary are in the neck slot and are amulets that allow enhanced access to the powers of the spellbook, but the UR level really should be a book. IMHO.

Slotless might be to powerful but you could put into a charm or ioun stone. Now some players might have to make some hard choices but not as bad as all or nothing.

Now they have to decide from the pool what it would replace or interact with.

Charm if you want them to make really hard choices, ioun if you don't feel it should be that hard of a choice.
