V1b NM run accepting the <V1 SPOILER>'s Offer 2 months 2 weeks ago #1

Anyone up for trying a V1 run where you accept the Ogre Mage's offer (strip down to 1 weapon - no other gear) on Nightmare?

Theoretically, it can be successfully done. I'm game if we can muster a group together.

We would absolutely need a bard, a rogue, a paladin, and several casters. Whatever the rogue finds in puzzle boxes helps to equip the party moving forward. We'd simulate that with a pile of random 2020 rares and uncommons. My assumption is that you still retain 5th level but otherwise revert to the base character card (maybe getting credit for consumables like runestones already used.)

If we had +4 bardsong and the rogue providing flanking, it will be possible to hit if our melee types have good weapons. The paladin's sacrifice ability would come to play pretty quickly as well.

We'd likely die but it would be fun to try.

You don't think you get your stuff back upon defeating the orc? That was my thought.

Unless he lets the party go afterward.

I wonder if anyone decided to give him their stuff this past weekend.

I asked that in discord and no one did. Wade tried to get one of his groups but they decline. Hmm I cannot put my guess here because it is a spoiler.

How would you get +4 bardsong? Even if you can retain the +1/+1 from 5th level (despite level coming from removed items), you can't use any instrument except the blowgun flute...

Also, sadly, you can't get anything from the Rogue boxes until after the run is over due to how VTD works...
... I mean, such a thing could be worked out with some preparation, but I dunno if they're gonna want to do that.

Now, if you play Normal or Hardcore, and everyone has a good magic weapon and uses their abilities well, sure, depending on your choices* in the run, maybe you could beat the boss, but I don't know if a party would survive a Nightmare boss fight unless they could manage to kill it quickly somehow.
I came here to sing and collect tokens, and I'm alllll out of money.

I’d be up for trying this as a Barbarian with a +5 deathcleaver.

Does anyone else think there’s going to be a sudden but inevitable betrayal?

People did do it this past weekend. But not going to post any information until after V1 is out of circulation.

I think the betrayal is likely as well.

For bard, I was thinking of being able to argue their bardic instrument is their "weapon" but you could be right that it wouldn't be allowed.

I am curious if it would mean moving down to 4th level cards or if we could keep the 5th level cards (where we started).

My guess is, for simplicity, they would allow us to stay at 5th level, keep any runestones we used in effect, and not change treasure enhancers.

We would want to convince the DM to allow us to do our own version of rogue treasure boxes with 2020 tokens to simulate what would normally be drawn (realizing it isn't physically there for VTD - just mailed later.)

We'd also have to agree that we wouldn't do the puzzle solution for the last room (the new version) so there is, at least, 1 combat.

Edwin - thank you for not posting what happens based on the group you indicated tried it. If we do this, it should be a surprise.

I'd be down to try this as a rogue, I enjoy looking for non-obvious solutions, they are typically under appreciated.
Turn 03: You purchase a dagger, bow and two potions.
